After pressing dried grapes from making Amarone, Valpolicella wine is passed over the still warm skins of Amarone for 2nd alcoholic fermentation, increasing the alcoholic content, aromas and color. Blend of 85% Corvina, 10% Rondinella, 5% Oseleta. Deep Ruby with aromas of sweet dried berry fruits and pepper spice. On the palate ripe blackberry, currants and sweet cherry with complex spice. Well balanced with acidity and alcohol, full-body with soft tannins on long finish. Nice value.

Black raspberries, sweet violets, tobacco and hints of licorice form a dazzling bouquet on the 2016 Ripassa. This is silky-smooth, with a dark fruit persona. It’s persistent and balanced, as hints of nuanced tannins and tart wild berries create a slightly grippy finale. $22.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, March 2021)

Interesting to see the evolution of Valpolicella Superiore - Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso on consecutive nights, which could be followed by a third - Amarone, but some of us need to work tomorrow :)

More concentrated than Valpolicella Superiore, due to second fermentation. Darker cherry notes, med+ body, very smooth, medium finish.

Great color! Medium-deep garnet. Full bodied with an aroma of smoked prosciutto and red fruits. Silky smooth with fruity flavors prevailing. Hot and spicy in your mouth and down the throat. Medium tannins but overall interesting experience! Lacking in taste/overall balance but still a great buy.

Green vine notes. Lots of acidity. Not what I expected but not horrible.

Very young tasting and not subtle or layered. I’m gonna give this a few years. Needs to be decanted, maybe for a couple of hours
