Château Brane-Cantenac

Grand Cru Classé en 1855 Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

David T
9.3

Love Margaux wines with rack of lamb. It is a classic pair as long as you are not doing a Mediterranean mint prep. This is salt, pepper, Napa Valley rub and red wine.

As it airs and intermixes w/ the meal, it rises from 93 to 94.

The wine is approaching its peak. Still has another 10 yrs of appropriate drinking.

The fruits are ripe, juicy; blackberries, black raspberries, plum, dark cherries, strawberries, raspberries with hues of purple & blue fruits. There is excellent integration & evolution. Led pencil shavings, fresh & dry herbs, moist grey volcanic minerals/clay, fresh & dry tobacco, sandalwood, used leather, soft, dark spice with heat on the long set, limestone, dry crushed rocks into powder, touch of black pepper, saline, fresh dark, red flowers with violets, excellent, cool rainfall acidity, well woven, balanced, softly tensioned & structured with a pure elegant finish that lasts a full two-minutes.

Agree! Classic pairing! (Although I’m not as geo-precise as you—I’ll take any nice Cab-majority left banker!)

Cayuse Vineyards

Cailloux Vineyard Syrah 2020

Christophe Baron first Walla Walla Valley vineyard, this 10-acre plot produces their flagship Cailloux Vineyard Syrah. Ruby with aromas of red fruits, herbs and floral notes. On the palate flavors of black cherry, raspberry and currants, with notes of tobacco, herbs, floral and toasty notes. Long finish, fine soft tannins ending with fruit, herbs and sweet notes. Very nice! — a year ago

Viña Errazuriz

Viñedo Chadwick Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2019

On the nose this is black current, blackberry, really black I think... Perfectly cured tobacco... On the palate, this is special... That black fruit is accompanied with precise cherry, cedar, some pepper? It's the tannin that ties this all together though. The softness is unreal. While I tasted this just with some bread, I kept getting the feeling that beef broth or gravy would pop brightly when paired with this wine. The length here was very long and kept bright for several minutes after the last sip. Elegant and outstanding. — a year ago

A terrific balance of ever so slightly candied fruit and savoury wood spice. Another major win is the fine grained palate coating texture no doubt due to it being unfined and unfiltered. Seriously what a bargain — 2 years ago

Shangri-La

Ao Yun Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2017

Herbaceous, peppery, smoky, savoury, and very high acidity when first opened. Everything started to blend in together and balance out after 5 hours, started to have some vanilla taste. Full body. Powerful stuffs but needs time. — 6 months ago
