Summertime and Summer Wine

It's summertime, and the living is...hot. We're our way to the middle of July, and many of us are experiencing the summer heat. What can you do to stay cool besides sitting in front of the AC, jumping in any nearby body of water, or just sweating 24/7? You could pop a few bottles of wine cool enough to battle the summer heat. We've gathered notes from the Delectable community to help you find the bottle to match your chosen way to stay cool. From poolside sippers to beach beverages, we have it all. Cheers and stay cool!

Castello di Amorosa

North Coast Pinot Grigio 2022

Pale lemon in color.

Fruity nose of citrus, honey, yellow apples, light tropical fruits, spices and honeysuckle.

Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and very fruity on the palate with apples, pears, ripe lemons, pineapples and spices.

Long finish with limes and pineapples.

This Pinot Grigio is delicious. Easy drinking and tasty. Tangy and interesting.

Showing nice complexity with a soft mouthfeel and a lovely nose.

Nicely balanced, spicy and fruit forward. Good right out of the bottle and very entertaining.

A great sipping wine by the pool.

14.4% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$29.

Rubentis Getariako Txakolina Hondarrabi Beltza Hondarrabi Zuri Rosé Blend 2022

Brings back memories of San Sebastián, even though most of the pintxo bars never pour rosé txakoli. 11.5%… higher ABV than most pours. This 2022 has a positively stronger herbaceous note than what I remember from previous vintages. But, previous wines were always with food, so drinking this solo could make all the difference. Lightly effervescent, mineral driven, tomato leaf notes with wild early-pick berries. Perfect summer cheese tray wine. — a year ago

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 1999

Magical Dom for beach weekend in Phuket. Bottle was a little concerning as the cork came out a bit too easily and no pschttt. However the nose revealed right away that this was going to be special. Almost toffee and brioche notes on both the nose and the palate. Classy, complex with caramel and burned sugar notes, but almost weightless. Will remember this one for a while — 2 years ago

Clarksburg Chenin Blanc + Viognier Blend 2022

If you are looking for something not so sweet but not tart and not minerally, this is it. Per my husband, it doesn’t taste like sugar, blood, or dirt. Nice to drink by the pool. — a year ago

Koehler-Ruprecht

Kabinett trocken Pinot Blanc 2018

Just discovered this producer recently, the Riesling was great. This Pinot Blanc is very refreshing... opened it by the pool on a 90F almost summer day. Good mineral notes and plenty of fruit along with the residual sugar makes this a fantastic wine... a crowd pleaser too. — 3 years ago
