Château Rieussec

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2001

Shay A
9.4

One of the bottles I provided for a co-hosting with Mark at the City Club wine group.

Always a treat to enjoy well-made 2001 vintage Sauternes. This was my first experience with Rieussec’s 2001. Deeply golden/amber in the glass. Aromatics fill the room with apricot preserves, honeyed lemons, orange marmalade, little bit of caramel. Bordering on bombastic on the palate, it stops just short of cloying. Commanding and opulent. Honeyed stone fruits, truffle honeycomb, roasted cashews. Excellent acidity. Obviously young, I’d love to revisit in 10-15yrs.

This 2020 is sensational. Deep aromatics and flavors of fresh forest, briar, blueberry reduction, cordial cherry, cinnamon, cardamom. Big and bold and arresting. — a year ago

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 2008

Pretty young straw colour . Very tight and young on the nose , needs time . Mineral , crushed rocks , lemon and tangerine rind , toasted nuts . Lots of intensity and electric on the palate , lemon curd , mineral , chalky finish. Long and mineral on the finish . Overall pretty closed , very promising , for the long haul. Needs 5 or even 10 years and will hold for a further 15 . — a year ago

Dominio del Aguila

Pícaro del Águila Clarete Tempranillo Blend 2018

pairs magically with some Iberico Salchichón, Chorizo and Manchengo!
“Please don’t call it rosé. It’s pink, but it’s clarete.”

Nice pairing!

Domaine Huet

Le Mont Demi-Sec Vouvray Chenin Blanc 2020

Super lovely. Ripe yellow apple, Bosc pear, ripe apricot, chamomile, sweet hay. Lively acids lift the residual sugars into a wonderfully elevated expression of Chenin… supremely easy to drink, but there’s incredible complexity if you inquire. — a year ago
