Ottella

Le Creete Lugana Trebbiano 2021

Here’s the Ottella Lugana Le Creete (2021) hailing from the small DOC of Lugana on the edge of Lake Garda calling both Veneto and Lombardy its home.

It’s made with 100% Trebbiano di Lugana (aka Turbiana) and is pale lemon with medium(+) intensity of grapefruit peel, honeydew, passion fruit, green apple, gooseberry, white blossom, honeysuckle, wet stones, Italian parsley, fennel, boxwood, toast, and delicate aged, hard cheese notes…

It has mouthwatering acidity to balance the medium alcohol (13% ABV) and rich mouthfeel and aromatic/ flavor intensity. It’s positively delicious!!

Far Niente Winery

Post & Beam Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Wow, this is interesting coming from the illustrious Far Niente. Nice round, chewy, cab. Approachble, 40 bucks. Quite the sweet spot. I will rebuy and put it through my full process. Alc comes across a bit hot. But otherwise, very good.

Marqués de Murrieta

Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial Rioja Viura 1986

For me it is “all that “. Like a fresh Selosse without bubbles.
Sensory overload on the nose and palate. The level of freshness at this stage is amazing. A little of everything, oxidative, salinity , orchard fruit, subtle wood , that makes this a true sum of the parts wine. Acid for days .3 dimensional in the mouth with a never ending finish. The food match of the day with lobster and morels.

+3Y in the cellar has really benefited this wine, generous strawberry, ripe apricot, orange zest tingle the senses, finally.

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this afternoon with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our conductor Andris Nelsons is leading Julia ADOLPHE (Makeshift Castle), STRAUSS songs with orchestra (Muttertändelei, Opus 43, No. 2 / Wiegenlied, Opus 41, No. 1 / Waldseligkeit, Opus 49. No. 1 / Ruhe, meine Seele, Opus 27, No. 1 / Zueignung, Opus 10, No. 1 / Morgen, Opus 27, No. 4) all voiced by our favorite soprano Renée Fleming, and closing with STRAVINSKY (Petrushka, 1947 version).

*Unfortunately, cellist Yo-Yo Ma has had to withdraw from today's planned performance of Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 due to testing positive for COVID-19.
