Vibrant still. Bright resolved red fruit with lots of secondary notes. Black cherry, salt leather, raspberry, blood, some dried herbs. This is so profound and balanced and long. Really astonishing given its age.

From mag. Very classy. Still fresh and dynamic. Cedar, soft Cabernet. Really complex and beautiful.

My last bottle, with a mid-shoulder fill. Reddish tawny color, thin and translucent in the glass. Earthy nose. Notes of black fruit, pencil lead, balsa wood, tobacco/cigar and leather saddle. Rich and palate-staining in the mouth. Still has some pucker. In the end, it's all about the great nose and perfume it gives off.

Tasted blind. Reddish tawny, translucent and old looking. Awesome nose. Notes of leather saddle, pencil lead, currants, cherry, soil, and some toasted hickory. All guessed 61 Bordeaux. This got better through the night and was at its best in the last glass.

My birthday wine! 65 years old. Wow. Perfume. Spice, mint. Rich. So alive. Immortal?

From a great old looking bottle with a mid shoulder fill. Cork is fully saturated and the crud under the capsule had formed a strong seal. Slow-ox’d for a few hours, then decanted for an hour or two before taken to L’Escargot in Carmel. Amber tawny rims with a reddish tawny core. Crazy nose right from the start. Notes of sweet black cherries, tobacco leaf, plums, black pepper, ash and crusty wood, pencil shavings, some just unwrapped cigar and some menthol. Silky in the mouth with firm structure and soft but present acidity. Long and memorable finish. Outstanding performance over several hours.

The mysteries of tension & energy in wine. Not explained, but in full display. Stunner.

Tawny color. Translucent. Nose of dark black fruit, brown sugar, pencil lead, black cherries. In the mouth sour cherries, pepper, horse saddle. Medium to short finish. Over several hours a sweeter fruitier finish came on. Nice contrast to the 45 Mouton and 47 Cheval Blanc.

Cedar, graphite, sweet cherry and potting soil. Pretty but not world-changing.
