Barbera d'Alba 2022

Dark ruby color with purple highlights. Expressive aromas of red berries, rose petals, violets and red plum. Bold palate is a blend of red and black cherries, red and black berries and sweet baking spices. Firm tannins and hefty structure. Long lasting and vibrant. Wonderful freshness and very versatile from a pairing perspective. I did not notice the 15+% alcohol content. Solid QPR. — a month ago

Riserva Monfortino Barolo Nebbiolo 2008

Utterly magnificent.. stunningly good and near perfect. Hits all my buttons and is my favorite wine. Let decant about 90 minutes. Smooth as silk. Bursting fruit mixed beautifully with forest and truffle like earthiness. — 4 days ago

Bric dël Fiasc Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two hours. The 2019 “Bric dël Fiasc” pours a beautiful garnet with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose wine is developing with notes of tart and ripe, red (mostly) and black fruits: raspberries, Maraschino cherry, underripe strawberries, cranberries, pomegranate, freshly cut sod, dried green herbs, talcum powder, and dried gravelly earth. On the palate the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, zippy and grippy. A beautiful Bric dël Fiasc that has a long life ahead. Drinking well now and should continue to do so through 2044, easy. — 17 days ago

Serralunga d'Alba Barolo Nebbiolo 2020

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of four days. Best of Day 4. The 2020 Classico pours a beautiful garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart and ripe red fruits: strawberries, cherry lozenges, pink roses, tar, talcum powder and dry earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose though the fruit comes across more ripe than tart. The finish is long and saline. This is an elegant, sexy Barolo with sneaky power that’s only revealed with enormous exposure to air at this stage. Drink now with patience and through 2040. — 3 days ago

Albe Barolo Nebbiolo 2013

#AgedWineTuesday

Pretty color of ruby with a wide brick rim.

Nose of red fruits, tobacco leaf, light wood, spices, coffee, black pepper, vegetables and herbs.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with raspberries, fresh cherries, spices, light oak and espresso.

Short finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a nice 11 year old Barolo.
A little tight right out of the bottle, and needed 90 minutes of airtime.

Fruity on the nose and earthy on the palate. Elegant and soft.

Still feels very young and would be nice to revisit it in a few years.

Not as complex as I expected it to be, but showed a beautiful nose once it opened up.

Not balanced at this point, and a little tart for me. Could be this specific bottle though.

100% Nebbiolo grapes were aged in large Slavonian oak barrels for 30 months.

14% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$50.

There are many models. What one do you have? The newer with wider needle make a big difference in pour speed. It has worked wonderfully for me on the rare occasions I show the restraint required to justify it…

Comes in handy when wanting to try a wine before opening another bottle. It’s also fun to share samples with friends. If you end up opening, oh well. That’s what’s fun.

Cascina Francia Barolo Nebbiolo 2009

Medium ruby centre with wide light garnet rim . This is a bit less fruit driven than I remember the last time I had this , 3 years ago or so . Nice spiced red cherry , blackcurrant , porcini , dried spices, touch smoky , dried rose and a balsamic hint . On the palate sweet red cherry , balsamic tinged blackberry , herbal and smoked black tea notes . This has very fine , velvety sweet tannins , and still quite good acidity , just balanced alcohol, I would drink this on the cooler side . The finish is medium length and with a spiced , liquorice note . This is firmly in its prime drinking window , showing some development whilst maintaining good density and ripe fruit on the palate . Drink now and over the next 5 -8 years or so . Not the most complex Cascina Francia , but incredibly enjoyable to drink now . — 10 days ago

Castiglione Barolo Nebbiolo 2016

2016. Hoisin, plum and tar nose with maple flower and sticky nettle notes. Rye bread and caraway. Grippy graphite entry of sour cherry, black cherry skins and tobacco. Firm tannins and smoke blow it out.
