Another solid vintage of this consistent Tuscan Red. Blend of primary Sangiovese with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blended in. Medium ruby red color. Aromas of red and black berry/currant fruit with hints of coffee and meat. The palate shows plum, cherry and strawberry fruit flavors with additional notes of tobacco, menthol, iron and spices. Superb, opened 5 750s. Saw big bottle variation, 3 spectacular, 1 off and one really off bottle. Some cork seepage on the lesser btls. Solaia has changed a lot over the last 10 vintages. This wine is more perfumed and has a weight not seen in say a 2010. Wine is still tight but is clearly packing a lot. The composition is excellent. The fruit is there but mostly in reserve. I liked but didn’t love this… Yet. I suspect it will be quite special the next time. — 17 days ago
