Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2021

Brief notes - this is the standard Chardonnay - the individual Cuvées are more expensive. This was most impressive for the standard, reflecting the excellent vintage in most parts of Australia including the Yarra Valley. Citrus more than stone fruit. Easy to drink. — 23 days ago

Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2021

Bright cherry color in the glass. Notes of red berries, cherry and black tea. Floral throughout and brings a soft tannin finish. Undeniably a Pinot. — 8 months ago

Single Vineyard Wombat Creek Vineyard Chardonnay 2019

Mealy, brioche, mixed with fresh lemon and slate. Perfect balance of steely mineral, lemon sweetness, and buttery brioche. Wombat creek has been my favourite single vineyard Giant Steps a few times. This is outstanding. A complete wine. — 3 years ago

Applejack Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

Our most favorite Pinot when we traveled Yara Valley last November. Intense vibrancy, fresh raspberry infused with cherry and carried by spice earth. All in perfect harmony. Love it!! — a month ago

Sexton Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

A week ago I posted a tasting note on the 2018 Giant Steps Nocton Vineyard Pinot Noir that had won 3 Trophies at the 2019 Royal Queensland Wine Show. This Giant Steps Sexton Vineyard Pinot repeated the 3 Trophy win at this year’s Royal Queensland Wine Show a month ago. Pale Ruby in colour - lovely aromatics - red fruited, rose petals. Wonderful palate intensity. Barely medium bodied. I wonder how this will cellar? It is so good now you wonder how much better it can get. I have been a long time admirer of Giant Steps and winemaker Steve Flamsteed who I knew from Toowoomba but what is disappointing is how the price has doubled under the new ownership. I used to pay $45 to $50 for the individual Cuvées and now a little over $90! — 10 months ago

Tout Près Pinot Noir 2019

About as good as Aussie pinot gets. Aromatically explosive - dark spicy fruit, mushroomy funk, and a menthol/tobacco note . The palate is full bodied and silky without being heavy. The quality of the rich dark fruit needs the acid and honed tannins of a young vintage. This would make old bones given the balance, but I prefer the young precocious colt. This is serious and nothing like the Giant Steps pinots of previous notes. 94++ — 3 years ago

Sexton Vineyard Chardonnay 2017

Brief Notes. More full bodied showing luscious stone fruit notes than you normally get from this Cuvée. Full bodied and ripe - medium minus acid. Delicious and mouth filling - you can’t help but love this wine. — a month ago

Château Palmer

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

This was stubbornly closed and unyielding. I think a lot of 2000 BDX are in the same “quiet” spot right now. The normal Palmer bouquet was very muted here that was far more pronounced in the 2004 I opened a few weeks ago. I think this is a sleeping giant though as there is a dense velvety tannin structure that sits heavy on the tongue. I’m holding off opening the the rest of my bottles for a few more years. I think this has 9.7+ potential... — 3 years ago
