Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

9.3

Still one of the best Napa Cabernets for the money. 12 a fruity & very high yield vintage in Napa Valley.

12 is a fruit leaning vintage. It is juicy, ripe, blackberries, black raspberries, black plum pudding, some boysenberries, cedar, medium plus tannins, dry tobacco, leather, dry leaves, expresso, French barrel shavings, sandstone, dark, rich, sweet, turned earth, stems, black, rich, sweet earth, steeped tea, alluvial limestone minerals, baking spices, liquid, dark, red, purple flowers, w/ rainfall acidity and an elegant, rich, fruit driven finish that lasts nearly two-minutes.

12 a vintage to age, but not long age. Lacks the tannins to do what 13, 14 will.

Happy birthday Angela.

Opus One

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2012

Delectable Wine
9.5

The 2012 Opus One is a terrific choice for drinking now. Silky and beautifully perfumed, the 2012 is wonderfully open-knit in this tasting. The purity of the fruit is alluring, There's still a good bit of freshness, too. Naturally, the 2012 reflects the medium-bodied style that is typical of the year, but all the elements are very nicely balanced. Crushed red berry fruit, mint, rose petal, spice and blood orange linger. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2024)

Napa Valley Petite Sirah 2019

Ripe, polished, round, suave, definitely not an old school Petite Sirah but a super modern style, undeniably VERY tasty, but struggling a bit with reconciling the flavor and particular the structural style with 1970s/1980s Petite Sirah, I’m confused?!?! — 21 days ago

Grgich Hills Estate

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Just a baby. Raspberry compote. Blackberry, black currant, licorice, and mocha. Acid, tannin, and fruit working in beautiful harmony.
Alcohol stands out at 14.6% and it’s expensive, which both drop the rating. Organic farming.

Chateau Montelena

Napa Valley Chardonnay 2021

I don’t know why it’s taken so long to try this bottling. I have missed out all these years. Clean purity of fruit mild depth at this early age and just plain exciting. Definitely worth the wait — 15 days ago
