Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2021

Brief notes - this is the standard Chardonnay - the individual Cuvées are more expensive. This was most impressive for the standard, reflecting the excellent vintage in most parts of Australia including the Yarra Valley. Citrus more than stone fruit. Easy to drink. — 14 days ago

Sexton Vineyard Chardonnay 2017

Brief Notes. More full bodied showing luscious stone fruit notes than you normally get from this Cuvée. Full bodied and ripe - medium minus acid. Delicious and mouth filling - you can’t help but love this wine. — a month ago

Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2021

Bright cherry color in the glass. Notes of red berries, cherry and black tea. Floral throughout and brings a soft tannin finish. Undeniably a Pinot. — 7 months ago

Single Vineyard Wombat Creek Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018

This is such an incredibly good Pinot noir - starting to get a touch of brick in the rim, it has pronounced aroma of cherry, violet, dried rose petal, orange zest, black cherry, wild strawberries, forest floor, and wild thyme (an unexpected garrigue-like note). Great finesse and elegance with the acidity giving a lean edge to the flavors and a terrifically long finish. A real tour de force of skill in the cellar. It will be good for another few years but drinking really well right now. — 2 years ago

Wombat Creek Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018

Stalky and dusty black cherry. Apparently about 55% to 60% whole bunches in the ferment. It seems like more than that. Also fresh red florals and cranberry. Recently fellow Delectable taster, Aravind, had a tasting at Giant Steps, which I had recommended and his favourite Cuvée was Wombat Creek - the highest vineyard in the Yarra Valley. It certainly is very impressive and quite different to the other Giant Steps Cuvées. (97 points from James Suckling). Went well with Roast Duck. The next night still very stalky with a peppery note. — 22 days ago

Lusatia Park Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015

Brief notes. Bright red fruits - ripe rich strawberry and cherry flavours. A little whole bunch influence and a touch of spice. More fruit driven than Lusatia Park normally is. The block has been sold to de Bortoli and no longer in the Giant Steps portfolio. This wine - 97 points from James Halliday. — 4 months ago

Stiegl Goldbrau Lager

9.5

Stiegl is a very fine brewery based in Salzburg, Austria, with a tradition of brewing since 1492. Stiegl means small steps, and this superb lager is worth drinking slowly to savour. Bright, light, and smooth with a classic bread and light hopped taste. — a year ago

Applejack Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

Our most favorite Pinot when we traveled Yara Valley last November. Intense vibrancy, fresh raspberry infused with cherry and carried by spice earth. All in perfect harmony. Love it!! — 25 days ago

A good choice.

Frascati Superiore White Blend 2020

Don't judge me for liking this. It's Delightful white blossoms and white nectarine nose. Superbly drinkable on its own, this is a great go-to for an outdoor patio spring summer social, it's a crowd pleaser that's several steps above and much more interesting than your Pinot Grigio's — 2 months ago

Sexton Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

A week ago I posted a tasting note on the 2018 Giant Steps Nocton Vineyard Pinot Noir that had won 3 Trophies at the 2019 Royal Queensland Wine Show. This Giant Steps Sexton Vineyard Pinot repeated the 3 Trophy win at this year’s Royal Queensland Wine Show a month ago. Pale Ruby in colour - lovely aromatics - red fruited, rose petals. Wonderful palate intensity. Barely medium bodied. I wonder how this will cellar? It is so good now you wonder how much better it can get. I have been a long time admirer of Giant Steps and winemaker Steve Flamsteed who I knew from Toowoomba but what is disappointing is how the price has doubled under the new ownership. I used to pay $45 to $50 for the individual Cuvées and now a little over $90! — 10 months ago
