Etichetta Bianca (White Label) Carema Nebbiolo 2014

Called blind Chianti from the leafy balsamic, then went Nebbiolo from the spice and florals. Super elegant. — a month ago

Cannubi Boschis Barolo Nebbiolo 2007

A tawny edge when swirled. First impressions - a powerful wine. “A Man’s Wine”… (you can only get away with that these days if you’re over 70!). Tannins have calmed in 17 years. Menthol, liquorice, earth and balsamic notes. Full bodied with finer grained tannins developing. Tasting this - many years left in the drinking window. From an excellent Barolo vintage. I might leave the last 07 until 20 years old in 2027. — 8 days ago

It’s amazing to experience how the flower opened up and radiated over all these years.

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2018

Lived up to their reputation. Tannins were prominent but fine and integrated and not overbearing due to the fruit intensity. Balanced and long once it breathed for 1+ hr — 12 days ago

Pio Cesare

Barolo Nebbiolo 2016

Bright Ruby with aromas of dark fruits, spices, oak and floral notes. On the palate flavors of cherry and plum with notes of herb pepper, tobacco, cedar and cacao. Long finish, nice balance with fine soft tannins, ending with oak and earthy notes. Good now but a few more years in the bottle will not hurt! — 20 days ago

Serralunga d'Alba Barolo Nebbiolo 2000

Decanted about two hours before service which, remarkably, ended up still not being enough time. Day 1 was more of an educational experience; a showcase of the 2000 vintage if you will. The fruit was stewed and tertiary and while the structure was there, it seemed out of balance and sort of a mess. Only half of the bottle was remaining and nearly just dumped. However, I decided to hold the remaining half bottle for the next day. Day 2 was different as the fruit actually brightened up and everything came into better balance. All I can say is, Nebbiolo is truly a fascinating grape. Notes are from Day 2. The 2000 Classico pours a garnet color with a slightly cloudy core moving to an orange rim. Medium+ viscosity with some sediment and no staining. On the nose, the wine is vinous with stewed red and black fruits, dried roses, tar, espresso, earth, cigar paper, leather, and brown caramel crumble. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and savory. The time is now. Drink now with a lengthy decant. — 8 hours ago

Langhe Nebbiolo 2022

Popped and poured; enjoyed over a couple of hours. The 2022 pours a garnet color with a transparent core. Medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is youthful with notes of pomegranate, cranberry, strawberry and raspberry compote, red flowers, and gravely minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium and just a touch hot. Not the most memorable Langhe Nebbiolo from Produttori in the last decade or so but it’s totally authentic and still a great value. Drink now and over the next 5-10 years. — 2 hours ago

Bricco delle Viole Barolo Nebbiolo 2020

Light reddish in color with light intensity, and fresh red fruits on the nose.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with mild complexity.

Showing red currants, cherries, strawberries light wood, spices, coffee and dark chocolates.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious Barolo. Still very young and needs time to mature properly.

Elegant and rich. Fresh, easy drinking, and already enjoyable, even by itself. Showing nice complexity and mouthfeel.

Needs time to open up properly, so be patient. Good by itself or with food.

Would be nice to revisit it in 10 years.

100% Nebbiolo grapes were grown at 1,200 feet of elevation. Vines are 40 to 90 year old vines. Aged for 42 months in large Slavonian wood barrels.

14% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Fontanafredda

Barolo Nebbiolo 1981

Poured into a decanter immediately prior to service. Not only was this 43 year old willing, it was positively singing right out of the gates! The 1981 Fontanafredda Barolo (classico) shows good color: a deep garnet with a transparent core and significant rim variation; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. There is some light sediment but most was decanted off. On the nose, the wine is vinous with gorgeous notes of ripe and desiccated dark cherries, pomegranate, old leather-bound books, truffle, earth and exotic spices. On the palate the wine is dry. The tannins are integrated but still pretty firm and acid is medium+. Confirming the notes on the nose. The finish is long and savory. Wow, what a remarkable bottle of Fontanafredda; arguably the best I’ve had. Perhaps I’ve aged as well? One would certainly hope. If you are also 43 years old or holding onto any of these 81’s from Fontanafredda, drink now. However, if this bottle is representative of well cellared examples, it could easily drink well through 2031. — 16 days ago

Lecinquevigne Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Fruit sourced from five vineyards, Brunate, Liste, Cerequio, Cannubi and Raviole. Medium Ruby red color with aromas of red fruit, earthy spices, floral and cedar. On the palate flavors of sour cherry and raspberry with notes of floral, smoky tobacco, vanilla and oak. Long finish, nice balance with fine soft tannins, ending with an earthy character. Good now, a few bottle years will benefit! — 20 days ago
