Solaia Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2019

Solaia has changed a lot over the last 10 vintages. This wine is more perfumed and has a weight not seen in say a 2010. Wine is still tight but is clearly packing a lot. The composition is excellent. The fruit is there but mostly in reserve. I liked but didn’t love this… Yet. I suspect it will be quite special the next time. — 4 days ago

Ca'Marcanda Promis Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2020

Wine is full bodied, purplish. On nose its violets, black cherries, cheedar, earthy. On palate, its sweet, little spicy, i can taste the brightness from sangiovese buts its more vegal to me. The structure, merlot balanced the syrah so it does mellowed the syrah attack. Long finish, tannic, give it 1 hour decant. Best after 2028.. cheers! 🍷 — 17 days ago

Bolgheri Sassicaia Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2012

Usually not a huge fan of Italian wines, but yeah, have been buying some Sassicaia over the years. As I put away some wines I stumble across this 2012 that should be ready to drink, so I bring it upstairs to decant it. Great nose and typical flavor profiles emerge. Nice acidity and a some background menthol flavors that remind me of some great Chateau Musar vintages. This is a vibrant wine with tannins still strong, but integrated; better on day 2.
Not one of my favorite wines, no surprise, but a solid well-made enjoyable Bordeaux blend

2015 vintage. Decanted and tasted immediately. Very little sediment. Medium-medium-heavy body. Structure and both ample grip and fruit in a beautiful balance currently and for the foreseeable future. No rush to crush. Revisit in a decade. Wowzers. 5.17.24. — 2 days ago

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

Ruby in color with a wide brown/ brick rim.

Medium bodied with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing black fruits with wood, earth, vegetables, spices, tobacco leaf, bitter herbs and peppercorn.

Nice finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 14 year old Brunello lost a lot of its fruits at this point. Soft and elegant. Earthy and better with food.

I paired it with a prosciutto and arugula pizza.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

Superb, opened 5 750s. Saw big bottle variation, 3 spectacular, 1 off and one really off bottle. Some cork seepage on the lesser btls. Shame…this was worth cellaring, the best on par with the finest super Ts anywhere and aging with light sour cherry, sweet tobacco and old leather notes that were so nice. — 8 days ago

Nice but not great. Was worried it would drink too much like a bruiser given the 15% abv and relatively young age - actually wasn’t too bad on that dimension. But, not quite the level of fruit, acid, and seamlessness I’d hope for. Wait on others. — 8 days ago

Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia Bolgheri Rosso Merlot Blend 2021

Opens up with splash of plums, dark cherries, and apple. This is tempered by fig, anise and touch of smoke. There are bitter but light tannins that dominate the final notes. — 17 days ago
