Pétrus

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1970

Tasted blind. It was evident that this was mature Bordeaux at its finest quality level from an excellent vintage. The absence of brettanyomces and a right bank aroma profile pointed towards Lafleur or Petrus. Deliciously ripe and dried red fruits mingle with black truffle, cocoa powder, forest floor and cigar box. Gently caressing the palate, the 1970 Château Petrus delivers a full-body, velvety tannins, a core of dried red fruits and a long, lingering finish. Probably slightly past it's peak, but still spectacular. Drink now. — a year ago

Belle Pente

Belle Pente Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015

Aging has done this wine well, IMO still has many more years, great red fruit, strong tannins for Pinot… great pepper spice… big fan of this vineyard!!! — a year ago

Failla

Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2019

Glowing firecracker, deep embers.

Sonoma green with one part cool climate lean, one part fudgey rich, thick and viscous.

Cedar cherry cola nose with accents of wild strawberry, cinnamon and Hot Tamales. Chewy chocolate mouth with an upfront sweet note - raisins and dates and then a finish of woodsy green rosemary stems.

Thanks @Nicolas Greinacher - do you have any thoughts on no. 2 vs. no. 3?

@Ely Cohn No 2 is a brilliant choice for dry and sweet whites and also performs well on sparkling. For reds, No 2 doesn’t perform as well, but still okay-ish. In short, No 2 is a great allrounder. No 3 on the other hand is spectacular for reds while less so for whites and unusable for sparkling. Josephine glasses only have two downsides in my view: 1) They also intensify off-flavors and 2) price.

@Nicolas Greinacher totally agree on your no. 3 take. I’ll prob have to grab no. 2 at some point. Yes they’re expensive but not much more than a bottle at a restaurant - that’s how I justify for myself 😊

Daou Vineyards

Reserve Paso Robles Chardonnay 2020

Possibly the best Chardonnay I ever had, at least as far as CA is concerned. Clean, crisp, delightful fruit. No oak. Daou always reliable. — a year ago

What can I say, I really liked this wine. But since I usually avoid Chardonnay, my sample size is really limited.

Collepiano Sagrantino di Montefalco 2018

Intense yet elegant. Notes of coffee, plum, pencil lead, and licorice. Lively acidity with dusty tannins, lingering finish.
Needed decanting and certainly would be complemented with years of agong.

Domaine Tempier

Bandol Rosé Blend 2021

Love ❤️ the salinity, lemon zest, nectarine, peach, underripe strawberries, melon and graphite. Finish on this just keeps giving! Best near room temperature IMHO! Ordered through Wine.com, thank goodness I have family in ILL, not available to Iowa! — a year ago

Xavier Vignon

Cuvée Anonyme Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2016

Very powerful and expressive nose, on fresh and candied fruits: blackberry , plum, blueberry, raspberry, herbs, lavender, balsamic touch. The body is medium+. Bright and peppery mint freshness, counterbalancing very well the 15 degrees ABV. Beautiful quasi- saline mineral final on roasted notes and licorice. Superb combination with Pasta al Truffles and Pecorino.
