2009 brunello di montalcino from Antinori. Notes of dead leaves, cigar box, overripe red cherries, old leather and burning forest. Decanted for 3 hours the palate is soft with approachable tannins that linger for a little bit but not too long, with an ashy, leathery quality that excites me. I don't usually dig Italian wines, but then again I usually never drink Italian wines this good. Great, great wine.
