Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

Offerus Saint-Joseph Syrah 2020

Blackberry, campfire, black olive, black fig skin, roasted meat, graphite and iron. A beast of flavors compelling themselves over a medium body wine. Has lots to say. Served with duck breast, fig compote and seared brussel sprouts. — 8 months ago

Bandol Rosé Mourvedre Blend 2019

See previous notes.
No shrinking violet this is, Very red peach on the nose, apricots, fleshy fruited.
Lots of minerals, earthy, clay, red flowers, granted, we’re having it alongside Andouille sausages and red beans & rice. So there is that.
Mostly Mourvèdre (40%)remainder cinsault, Grenache, carignan,
Always nice

Marchesi Mazzei

Siepi Castello di Fonterutoli Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 2020

Medium bodied equal blend of Merlot and Sangiovese. Has a nice sense of place. Dark cherries, roses, tea, graphite and interesting sour spicy notes like sumac. A fair level of polish here that really makes it shine. — 8 months ago

Giacomo Conterno

Riserva Monfortino Barolo Nebbiolo 2008

Opened very slowly. Little sediment and only light staining on the cork. This was without signature for the first 30 minutes. Very slight cherry and tar notes. Pleasant but nothing much evident. After 2 hours of decanting it opened and was more resonant but it never exceeded “generally nice”. Nothing was amiss but nothing zoomed or was special. Finish was not particularly long. Tannins were mellow. Bouquet was modest but somewhat inviting. Color was pale with orange rim. This was an auction purchase. — 8 months ago

Antica Terra Collective Tasting. An herbaceous grenache?? Is it possible? A plume of rosemary and thyme aroma in the face that doesn’t back off. Strawberry fruit plays in the background. — 8 months ago
