G.M.C 10 Judean Hills Red Blend 2010

Avidan Winery Fringe G.M.C 2010, Israel

Dark ruby in color with a dirty brick rim.

Beautiful nose of blueberries, currants, cooked cherries, figs, licorice, wood, cloves, spices, light vegetables, pencil lead, forest floor, tobacco leaf and herbs.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blueberries, light wood, currants, sweet strawberries, cooked plums, spices, chocolates, smoke, wet rocks, cloves, forest floor, leather, leaves, peppercorn and graphite.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a wonderful aged Israeli red blend. Well balanced with great complexity and mouthfeel. Good by itself or with food. Showing lots of earthy notes with nice black and red fruits. This reminds me of a 20 year old Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Needs an hour to open up properly and remove some of the mold notes, but after 2 hours it became really special.

Probably peaked a couple of years ago, but it is so interesting to drink now. This is one wine that you want to sip on, and smell, and talk about.

I paired it with cheeses and light appetizers, but the Camembert was perfect for it, even better than the brie. All those notes intertwined with each other beautifully.

A unique blend of Grenache, Merlot and Carignan. Kosher.

14.3% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Nebbiolo 2013

Yotam Sharon
9.0

Another wine I made during my tenure at the Trio Winery, finally bottled as Avidan. Medium brick, the nose opens up with some rust, red currants, strawberries, rose petals, orange zest. Good freshness. Very supple and smooth on the palate, with rich, savoury, spicy fruit. Acidity is on the low side. It's drinking very well now, though I'm not sure it's built for aging. Even though and despite being biased, this is easily Israel's best rendition of Nebbiolo. — 9 years ago

Fringe More - Recioto Style 2006

Small boutique winery. A Recito style wine made from grape bunches that were dried in the classic method by drying "clusters of grapes on mats of straw in the sun" for four months. Aged for 36 months in French oak barrels and bottled unfiltered. Full-bodied blend of Shiraz, Grenache and Merlot. Complex, rich, dark fruit, spices. Liqueur or Cognac comes to mind. Sweet, refined, smooth, long finish. — 11 years ago

Fringe Prio07 Carignan Blend 2007

Avidan Winery Fringe Prio07 2007, Israel

Ruby in color with a wide brick rim.

Nose of blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, smoke, chocolates, leather, earth and peppercorn.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with currants, plums, cherries, blackberries, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, herbs, spices, dark chocolates, coffee, peppercorn and vegetables.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is such an enjoyable red blend from Israel. Well balanced and enjoyable by itself or with food. Showing now great complexity and mouthfeel. Fruity with earthy notes, a new and old world mix. It has an aged Châteauneuf-du-Pape feel.

I would have probably enjoyed this 11 year old more, a couple of years ago, but even now it is delicious and interesting.

A blend of 40% Carignan, 30% Grenache, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot. Aged for 25 months in French oak barrels. Unfiltered.

15% alcohol by volume.

Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

Fully body, bright fruit, and oak. All I was hoping for. Great Israeli wine. Wish I could buy more but alas I'm no longer in Israel. — 7 years ago

Cabernet Franc 2013

Yotam Sharon
8.9

Varietal Cab franc from the Upper Galilee. Nicely forward on the nose with red fruit laced with violets. Crushed green peppers than make an appearance, but this isn't too overtly green. Still a bit tannic on the palate, but all in balance. I made this wine for Trio, owners of Avidan, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. — 9 years ago

Fringe Grenache - Mourvèdre Blend 2007

Light ruby in color with a brick rim and light intensity.

Nice nose of blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, oak, earth, leather, tobacco leaf, licorice, spices, smoke, oxidation, light barnyard and light black pepper.

Medium bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, raspberries, earth, green vegetables, herbs, coffee and light bell pepper.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a great surprise. A great blend of Grenache and Mourvedre from Israel. Well balanced with a great mouthfeel and nice complexity.

This aged Israeli red blend is still fruity with some earth notes.

Enjoyable by itself or with food. I paired it with cheeses and light appetizers.

A blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre. Aged for 16 months in French oak barrels. Unfiltered.

15.5% alcohol by volume.
