Castiglion del Bosco

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

Tim L
9.4

Probably opened this Brunello 2010 vintage late but after resting open for an hour in the bottle and into the glass for moments only, the wine softened to a velvety, exquisite smoothness on the palate with a perfect balance…just the right amount of tannins and acidity. Close to spectacular…elegantly drinkable, nothing quite comparable to the full-flavored yet medium bodied Brunello. Other reviewers have more impressionable palates but no single distinct flavor impressions for me other than the deep red berry. No nut nor earthiness yada yada (how does anyone taste a nut, tree bark or dirt in fine wine?). Etc. etc…simply a full flavor but not “big” for the sake of it. An exquisite wine…a rare accomplishment. Purchased in Cortona, Italy. — 7 days ago

Tenuta Il Poggione

Riserva Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

This classic wine is aging gracefully. Medium ruby color with brick rim. Bold dark cherry aromas with notes of leather, violets, spices and graphite. Black cherry on the pallet with notes of mushroom and tobacco. Medium/plus body with a touch of mineral on the finish. Tannins are quite smooth. Mouth watering (high levels of) acidity. Really nice expression of the Sangiovese grape. — 4 days ago

Château Haut-Bages Libéral

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

This is one beautiful wine. I opened the 2010 Château Haut-Bages Libéral. Pauillac 5th Growth Château from the Left Bank Bordeaux. The blend is 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Merlot.

On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, mocha, mint, herbs, smokey camp fire, cedar, crushed gravel and earth.

On the palate there is black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, black currant, herbs, smoeky oak, graphite and earth.

This is a wonderful full bodied wine with a fresh creamy mouthfeel medium + acidity and medium + mouthcoating polished tannins with a very expressive long red & black fruit graphite finish. I hope everyone's weekend has been eventful and I wish everyone a wonderful week ahead. Please stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

King Family Vineyards

Monticello Petit Verdot 2010

King = Klass!! Quality fruit from a overly hot vintage tests the best winemakers. This is such a scenario as PV with too much potential alcohol & tannin can overwhelm the inherent acid phenolics over extended cellar aging. Thus, this was at post peak performance at 11+ years from harvest. The quality of Matthieu’s work is, nevertheless, can clearly be appreciated here: blackberry & blueberry compote with delicious toasty herbs. So fun to test the limits and enjoy a LONG PV finish! — 7 days ago

Château Angélus

Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classe Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Wow this is why I need to make money. Lucali SG 1:1, had this with pizza and calzones like an animal. Coffee chocolate leather black fruit oak/ vanilla… all the good stuff. I never really had a first growth ever. Smelled Napa at first but I feel as it softened it became a lot more mellow. Reviews say eucalyptus and I’m finally starting to understand that — 6 days ago

Tenuta Greppo (Biondi-Santi)

Riserva Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

Annata Biondi-Santi. This is absolutely delicious. Always special from this producer. Love the color. Classic Sangiovese. Orange rimmed next to the pale red. Balanced between some grippy but delicate tannins and approachable fruit. The nose has some spice and some earth but they don’t bring a kick so much as depth. The bottom line is you can tell it’s great because the wine drinks so fast! — 15 days ago
