Hibiki 21 Years Old Blended Whisky

A little bit of madness as I wanted to drink this very rare bottle. Definitely worth getting « lost in translation » and very very good while more structured / less smooth than the traditional hibiki. Is it worth it or just speculation? I’ll let you decide for yourself — 2 months ago

Glenfiddich Gran Reserva 21yr - Light, sweet nose. Short pour which might affect. I’m getting a bit of plastic on the flavor. Sweet, light finish. — 2 months ago

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 2002

Extremely fine mousse, possibly the finest I’ve ever seen. Aromas of lemon, lime and honey. Amazingly fresh and vibrant for a 21 year old wine. On the palate medium plus intensity. Notes of over ripe mouldy apple. Jancis gave this 20/20 which is Off the Charts for her. She said that they started to measure glycerol levels from 2001, and 2002 has been the highest glycerol Dom P ‘by a mile’. An interesting comment. Were they only comparing to 2001? The following day the Lime and Honey dominated still. It would be interesting to taste this next to the 2002 P2. The latter probably fresher still and more mineral. — 2 years ago

I remember frenzy when this 2002 was released, people would buy the more they could.
I recall a small producer wondering how DP could make a million or more bottles of such extraordinary Champagne.
Chapeau!!

Long Shadows Vintners

Pedestal Columbia Valley Merlot 2016

It's time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!

Dark Inky in color with a reddish/ purplish rim.

Fruity nose of black currants, black plums, cooked cherries, light dried fruits, cedar, light vanilla, herbs, licorice, spices, dark chocolates and light cola notes.

Full bodied and elegant, with medium acidity.

Dry and fruity on the palate with plums, black cherries, black currants, bitter herbs, earth, chocolates, cedar, eucalyptus, tobacco leaf, peppercorn and light vegetables.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a wonderful Merlot from Columbia Valley. Soft and fruit forward. Rich and nicely balanced.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 90 minutes of air time.

This 8 year old Merlot is complex and spicy. Really enjoyed the nose at this point, and the high alcohol is well integrated by now.

Easy drinking and a good sipping wine. Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years.

I had this vintage a few times before, and it is always delicious. I just love Michel Rolland wines.

A blend of 75% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot. Aged for 22 months in French oak barrels (85% new).

14.9% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$75.

21 Gables Pinotage 2018

Dark, glass-clinging red purple with garnet highlights. BlackBerry, black cranberry, woody leather on the nose and medium full palate. Licorice black bread back palate and on the medium long finish. Medium plus tannins. Medium acidity. S Africa's signature red has come a long way from the days of dirt. The 21 Gables is an excellent example of a higher end food-friendly South African red. Enjoy with beef, game, and hearty fare now through 2028. — 8 months ago
