Gioia del Colle Primitivo

Fruity and pleasant, maybe a little too dry? — a year ago

Cardone

Archita Primitivo

One of the best reds of the trip. Very tasty, velvety with tannins. Fruit forward (I don’t know what I’m talking about). Damn good, local and cheap — 3 years ago

Di Majo Norante

Ramitello Molise Red Blend 2016

I have never tried a wine from Molise before. On the Adriatic coast east of Naples and a little north of Bari, I had no idea what to expect. This 85% Montepulciano and 15% Aglianico blend is robust. But somehow shows a bit of lightness and salty sea breeze. Dark cherry, plum, spice. Very good with food. You could drink this wine every day and never grow tired of it. — a year ago

Pietraventosa

Allegoria Gioia del Colle Primitivo 2016

Deep ruby; pronounced intensity aromas of vinyl, tar, earth, and leather upon pouring; more fruit as it opens up, blackberry, black plum, cocoa; dry, medium acid, high tannins, medium alcohol, full, medium plus intensity flavors consistent with aromas; medium plus finish, this is a BIG wine, very complex and concentrated — 3 years ago

Rosé di Lulu Murgia Uva di Troia Rosé 2020

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2020 Rosé di Lulú is quite unique and perfumed in the glass, with a bouquet of Sour Patch melon, sweet spice and candied orange peels. It’s soft textured with wild inner floral tones complemented by hints of ginger, coming across more like an exotic herbal tea than wine. The result is actually quite pleasurable as this tapers off savory yet fresh with a lingering hint of spearmint. The Rosé di Lulú is a varietal Nero di Troia Rosato from Puglia. Coppi

Senatore Primitivo 2015

This Primitivo shows a medium-dark tint in the glass and a nose that is all fruit, all the time. Cherry aromas are joined by notes of plum and cassis, with just a hint of oak. After it sits for a bit, a whiff of smoke gathers at the top of the glass. The palate shows a lot of earthiness and a chalky quality, which we can chalk up to minerality. There is a lengthy finish that turns slightly tart on the fade. I would love to have this wine with some nice Italian sausages and pasta, or a meatball sub.
