Chateau Montelena

Napa Valley Chardonnay 2022

Quite light straw , green hints . On the nose this is quite restrained , some apricot , pineapple , white flower notes. On the palate again restrained , lemon peel , touch of apricot , pineapple, hint of toastiness . High acidity and really good balance , nice lemon peel tinged finish . This will probably age well , now and over the next 7-10 years — 11 hours ago

Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1981

Thought there was a chance this one was corked… turned out solid. Deep ruby color. Aromas of leather, blackberry and earthy mushroom. Hanging in there with some solid licorice, baked berry and oaky finish. — 14 days ago

Flavors just as described on the label - dry, with hints of vanilla, and a smooth oaky finish. It’s going to be a regular purchase. — 12 days ago

Chateau Montelena

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

In the glass, it’s a deep, opaque ruby, promising something serious. The nose has blackcurrant, cedar, and graphite, with a hint of dried herbs, dust and cigar box, like stepping into an old library. There’s restraint here, almost old school. No overripe fruit, no excess; just balance, precision.

On the palate, it’s all about structure. The tannins are firm but refined, holding together layers of dark fruit, espresso, and a touch of cocoa. The acidity is just enough to keep it fresh, cutting through the richness of it all. As the wine opens up, there’s a shift; an earthy, almost savory depth that lingers on a long, seamless finish. Could have saved it but it is peaking and paired perfectly with a thick cut of ribeyes over mesquite charcoal with great company and conversation.

Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

DEEP red color, almost black and non-see-through. Big fruit forward nose, jammy dark ripe fruits, with hints of blood orange and violet peppered in. A big fruit palate with hints of graphite, vanilla and wood, with tight tannins that hang on and don’t let you forget, with a lithe, tight acidity that shows that it still needs some time to reach its peak, despite the pedigree. This is a prime example of modern Napa cab, dry but fruity, but bombs, American as hell, distinctive and brash, and not ready to play on the big stage, but lots of potential. — a day ago

Chateau Ste. Michelle

Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Costco. Prior to aerating properly this was a little drying and oaky, and this wasn’t so good. However, following a bit of time to breathe and aerate, this was very enjoyable. Fruits and redcurrant and cherries came out, with a bit of an oaky dryness on the finish but not too significant. — 4 days ago

Napa Valley Merlot

Exceptional Merlot! Very rich, full bodied and balanced. Definitely a roasted red meat, steak wine. Beautiful finish and lingers long after your last sip. And great with food or just to sip and enjoy. — 9 days ago

Diamond Collection Black Label Claret California Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

No detailed notes. Just a good drink now budget Cabernet from California which drinks to its price point. Blackberry and dark chocolate. A Coppola movie has more complexity 😎 — 23 days ago
