Château de la Gardine

Cuvée des Generations Gaston Philippe Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2012

A legacy CdP from the collection. Haven’t had in many years - with the age it’s certainly nice. Though, quite full bodied and somehow still somewhat austere, and with not enough acid to really keep it all refined. Nice enough with skirt steak on the grill. — 21 days ago

Château Montrose

La Dame de Montrose Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Really a pretty nice second wine from a great Bordeaux house (Montrose). In general I prefer St Julien to St Estephe but this is very good. Decanted 2 hours which I recommend. Inky in the glass. Some good secondary notes on the nose. Fruit is very there, but more acid to keep it balanced than I expected. Nice with a prime ribeye on the grill. — 2 years ago

Stark-Condé

Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Saturday night with Bordeaux blend from South Africa, paired with friends & their own ‘asado ( Argentine grill of chorizo, entricot, & sirloin; salad w tomato, jicama etc). Plenty of black fruits, cassis, & smokiness, all reflected in nose & palate. With air becomes quite long & elegant. Great concentration but balanced. Well done. Should I be surprised? Haven’t tasted a higher end cuvée from S Africa in eons so my data points are ancient, but yes, surprised — 2 months ago

Bodegas Ateca

Honoro Vera Calatayud Garnacha 2020

Medium ruby to purple in color; cherries, graphite, and grill plums; high acidity; medium tannins; tastes like blackberry sauce, eucalyptus, a hint of black pepper, and candied cherries with a long finish. Nellie likes it and so do I. — 8 months ago
