This freisa wins the competition between all of the non nebbiolo varietals we tried side-by-side: ruche, grignolino, dolcetto, etc. — 5 years ago

The 1990 has a lovely light almost herbal nose with a fairly dark red color with minimal browning of the edges & a moderate body with good complexity & good acid & balanced tannins & lovely complex aftertaste. It will last 5-15 years in a cool cellar. — 7 years ago
The Nebbiolo grape's name is derived from the Italian word "nebbia" meaning "fog." Some say that the grapes were named after the dense rolling fog that frequently falls over the lush vineyards of the Piedmont. Others, however, believe the grape's name refers to the hazy state this powerful wine leaves its drinkers in the next day - a belief I currently subscribe to. Liberally sampled this wine from large format bottles at a dinner party. Big and powerful tannins on the nose fall away in the mouth to a well balanced but still firm wine with flavors of black cherry, fine leather, and tar, followed by a delightful finish. Drinking well now but will become even more delicate as time passes. #winekylecandrink — 9 years ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two days. Solid on Day 1 with some VA that blew off and this was rocking by Day 2. The 2010 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with very light staining of the tears. No signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing, with heady notes of Morello cherry, blackberry, black plum, bergamot, tomato leaf, red flowers, coffee, dried green herbs, and soft baking spices. On the palate the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Alcohol is high but in balance. Certainly a Brunello of fine character. Distinctive and yet totally true to its sense of place. There’s a near palpable density. Modern but sexy. Drink now with patience and through 2035+. — 4 months ago
