Château de Sales

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

This Right Bank Bordeaux is bright Ruby red, from a blend of Merlot (80%), rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Fresh red fruit with cedar spice aromas. On the palate flavors of blackberry and cherry with some cacao and licorice notes, adding oak and mineral tones. Fine tannins, medium finish, good balance with fruit, ending with smoky oak character, drink now on the younger side, no real benefit from long-term aging. — 12 days ago

Château Troplong Mondot

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2004

Brief , informal notes . Medium deep ruby garnet , quite narrow terracotta garnet rim . This was quite exuberant and fruit driven at first, with blackberry jam , cassis , touch of spice and wood smoke . After a while becomes a bit more serious , with mineral and a touch of coffee , seaweed notes . On the palate quite rich and dense , with dark fruits , chocolate , coffee and granite hints . Medium currant and coffee tinged finish, slightly warming alcohol . Balanced acidity and pretty gritty tannins . This is drinking well now last well a further 7- 10 years or so . — 20 days ago

Château Nenin

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1966

I decanted for sediment and allowed to breathe for a couple of hours prior to serving double-blind to my friends. The 1966 Chateau Nenin pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core moving out to a slightly amber rim; medium viscosity with no obvious staining of the tears but there is some sediment. On the nose (and oh what a nose it is!), the wine is vinous with a beautiful combination of ripe and desiccated fruits: notes of ripe plums, brambles, purple flowers, pipe tobacco, fennel, baking spices, iron rich earth and forest floor. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+, soft and the texture is thin. One of those wow experiences. The room was all over the place with their calls: Spain, Australia, USA, Italy and France with most expecting 20-30 years of age. None were particularly surprised when it was revealed to be Pomerol. All were stunned when they learned it was a ‘66. Evergreen. Drink now with a two hour decant and well stored examples have years of life left — 19 days ago

Château La Gaffelière

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

2005 vintage. Old-school chunky St. Emmie. Decanted and tasted after 30 mins and one hour. Medium-heavy bod. Slightly dirty finish. Nice concentration on that back-end and should hold up in this capacity for another decade. — 19 days ago
