La Geynale Cornas Syrah 2016

Beautiful wine. Feeling suspended in time. Lots of energy, deepness and Sicily complexity. The fruit is now overtaken by the spiciness so it may need more air or more time to evolve in bottle. Can still improve. — 25 days ago

In stunning form for dinner at Selby’s after the quasi 50th anniversary of the 1976 Judgement of Paris Tasting. It was the Stag’s Leap 1973 that won amongst the reds. — 6 months ago

Diane de Belgrave

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Final meal in Paris. I had read about Anthony Bourdain liking this place because of its simplicity and perfectly cooked meat. (Apparently one of his favorites in Paris). Great meal to close our week in Paris, especially if you like fire grilled meat as much as we do.

The Diane de Belgrade was a textbook Bordeaux. I liked it even more after a bit of time in the glass. This wine is also a reminder that even simple bottles can be amazing. @Robert et Louise in Le Marais.

As you should! A well executed steak grabs your mind and doesn't let go until you find the next best version.

Domaine Vincent Paris

Les Côtes Saint-Joseph Syrah 2022

Last bottle of a summer dinner- no decant. 2nd tasting of this vintage & much more expressive than the first. Throws Brett a decent amount & imagine some might prefer a substantial decant, though I like the funkiness. Fine toothed &a lovely grainy, slightly chewy texture & rather elegant; cassis, black currant, smoked beef jerky, & black cherry on palate & nose. Not complex at this stage but who needs it given the enjoyment factor. Post meal ( or probably blended into the end) of grilled BBQ chicken, French lentilsw labneh, & local tomato salad. There goes summer… — 3 months ago

Great stuff. Mixes mineral pedigree of iron and blood with a lifted, red, fresh profile. Both contemplative and drinkable — 3 months ago

Did you really drink this at a car wash?@Doug Powers

@Peter Sultan, of course not, but Delectable (like UnTappd, the beer app I also use) has very limited “venue” apps, so, like my buddy @Severn Goodwin, who once checked in a wine at a Canadian toll booth, we all look for funny venues!! On UnTappd, I was able to create a custom venue that I use, but have never figured out how to do so on Delectable?!?!

Oh shoot, I was really starting to enjoy the image of Delectable-ites toasting with their Chinon while watching as their car gets scrubbed. All kidding aside, there was a shift on Delectable several years back I noticed when it became impossible to locate myself ( though w restaurants it works well); apparently my closest drinking venue is the synagogue across the street!@Doug Powers

Château Au Grand Paris

Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. Interesting wine based on the fact that age has really mellowed it. Nose features violets, asphalt, Forrest Floor with a note of dark cherry/cassis fruit. Dark berry fruit is muted on the pallet with hints of dark chocolate. Soft tannins on the medium finish. Austere. — 4 years ago
