Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1998

Sublime, in a prime window with wonderful aromatics and depth, plenty of fine tannin and acid to support the fruit, and a long, complex finish. — 2 months ago

The color had amber tones. Some unpleasant smell faded somewhat. Still nice fruit and elegance. — 3 months ago

Les Boudots Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2011

2011 vintage. First time with this producer. Purchased an out of town bottle (along with a buncha BDX) approx two months ago and finally got around to driving 1.25 hours one way to pick up. Pressed immediately into service tonight. Sweet fill and good cork. Nose a bit musty. Not decanted as I was at home and too lazy for the hogsheads of real fire and whatnot. Light-medium body. Sultry notes of cinnamon, tangerine peel and slightly carmelized brown sugar betwixt drought earth and brackish water. Doesn't exactly sound like an Oscar for a memorable performance but this was firing. Lengthy finish. At the top of the bell curve and tastes like it'll remain as such for another 5-6 years. In that oh so sweet spot for dynamite, 1er Cru red Burg. At (only) roughly $170 a bottle (including shipping this time), purchasing four more bottles as we speak. I'd like to thank the Academy...er...the credit card. 12.10.24. — 2 months ago

1.25hrs is like 3miles on the 805. Did you even get past Clairemont 😂

@Norman Gennaro S’always about timing in life. Gotta know when and when not to be on the freeways.

Les Beaumonts Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Pinot Noir 1985

A rare treat and an immaculate bottle. Intense dark fruit, almost brooding on the nose. Gorgeous black cherry and plum with hints of iodine and some gnarly notes of underbrush and a slight tang of salinity. This is very elemental still in some ways but much of the fruit is in place and secondary notes are shining through. Really gorgeous and intense and an incredibly well kept bottle. What a surprise… I hope I get to encounter this unicorn again. You couldn’t ask for a more compelling bottle. — a year ago
