Miracle Valley

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2022

2022 vintage. Light-medium body. Not decanted and tasted after 2 hours open. Dusty, earthy intro. Some cherry mid-palate with a return to forever dust, earth, herbs, spices, Etsy/micro-producer attitude paired with serious backing and terroir. Long finish. Wanted and expected both more front and mid-palate action and mouthfeel but wasn't getting it. To be fair...without a decant...and a new release as a distinctively different (leaner) style would be a slight miracle to be (perceived) as a pop and pour. Needs at least a half-decade to be fairly assessed but, decidedly, quality juice. 10.25.25. — 14 days ago

How can I write a note on this? It’s perfect. Elegant. Refined. Red fruits. This is poetry. White pepper. Just a miracle. — 3 years ago

Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

So here is the thing. Mr A. Scott is right. He did not say it in so many words - i guess he wants to clear out T.J.’s. But this wine which can be awful in some years is right on and for 15$ buy it by the case. The classic Barolo flavors one would expect + surprisingly anise on the nose and in the glass. Tons of tannins which could turn off for the usual crowd. But this is actually very very good for what it is. Unbeatable at this price. A miracle. — 2 years ago

@Pinotman /// Andreas Me and the lady have been crushing this as the daily drinker. Pop and pour. Absolutely, a miracle. Glad you enjoyed. Should hold steady for 5-7 years. After that, who knows?

Terre des Aînés Gigondas Red Rhone Blend 2019

Vintage 2019 | I love this wine. It’s a idiosyncratic character. A Beast. Not willing to show charm. Very old school: classic smell, peat, cedar. Hint of chocolate. I thought it to be a Tannat, that says it. Put away in the cellar for another 3 - 5 years and get it on a windy, rainy autumnday for a dinner with wild boar of deer. Probably you will be amazed and witness a miracle. — a year ago

Coteaux du Layon Chenin Blanc 1994

Vintage 1994 | Tasted blind. After unwrapping I saw this wine stood next to a Montlouis Moelleux from Chidaine. A unique opportunity to compare. Poured in the glass it looked syrupy, so a bit more fat from Coteaux du Layon compared with the Montlouis elegance. In smell: flowers, almonds and nougat. Beautiful concentration and a little miracle to see such a vivid colour after 29 years. A Chenin Blanc icon. — 3 years ago

Real Vinicola

Vintage Port 1961

Simply one of the greatest wines I’ve ever tried to date, the 1961 Real Vinicola is my first venture into mature Port and a complete eye-opener to this style of wine.

A veritable miracle on opening, the wine has a clear brick-red colour and a hauntingly beautiful nose. There are exotic aromas of toasted nuts, dried cherry, fig, raisin, lavender and clove; it’s a wine you don’t need to taste for a long time, such is the intrigue up front. The palate, then, is explosive for a wine of this age, almost full bodied with great complexity and acidity that belies its six decades of life.

The finish is staggeringly long, with a lasting impression on the palate. A new and totally enthralling experience for me in the world of wine.
