Ok it is finally here - the wine nerd herd 5 year reunion has started - in 2016 - the herd met in NYC - there were amazing bonds and friendships developed and are intact to this day and growing
Initially there was
@Carl Fischer @Ron R @Joe Lucca @David L well as myself @Mike R and one other who had such a blast we have decided to this get together as a herd frequently and for most part we have been United and strong even doing zoom tastings whenever
Not long after the initial conclave in 2016 we traveled and expanded to include
@Bill Bender @Shawn R @Eric L. and a true foundation of youth and knowledge @Shay A we have been to Palm Beach, Raleigh, San Diego, San Antonio, Des Moines, Paso Robles and now back to the starting place - NYC - 5 years later
Get ready New York as the herd is running hard and with purpose in the city that never sleeps
The picture / posting are two tune up tastings last Saturday with locals in Raleigh as I need practice a) red wines below 50 and b) red wines above 100
Standout to me was the Muga in the less than 50 and in the over 100 - all were good but Paul Hobbs, myriad, switchback ridge, Pulido walker
Of course the krug and aubert were good but maybe not able to keep up
The carnival of love and Don Melchor were delicious as well but were not equivalent to the Napa cabs that are all world class vineyards and winemakers
Again I say all this to say training is over and let the games begin in NYC as we have landed
Thank you
@Ron R and @Carl Fischer for hosting the herd and I am stoked

Brewery Bhavana

Bloom

Andrew Holod
9.1

Brewery Bhavana 'Bloom' dry cardamom triple
Raleigh NC. 8.1%
Label story is that brewer spent time in Kerala India.
Medium plus gold. Pale head that disipates rapidly. Green resinous cardamom aromas combine with tropical/banana and Candi sugar in the nose. Palate plays the banana note again, along with ginger, cardamom and a vaguely tropical custard flavor (soursop/cherimoya?). On a second taste the in mouth aroma is more of a baked banana bread with cinnamon. Quite complex and very well balanced, ending with a warming alcoholic exhale.

Sine Qua Non

Patine Syrah 2011

Had this wine with some old and new friends at Taylor’s Wine Shop in Raleigh, NC. Brick colored with an aroma that just pulls you in. Earthiness, leather, and pepper on the nose. The taste confirmed the scent. It had structure, power, and meatiness with a black pepper undertone. However, it was remarkably smooth with a long finish. Thank you @Mike R for sharing this wine. It was fantastic! — 3 years ago

Long Shadows Vintners

Nine Hats Columbia Valley Red Blend

This was an evening out in Raleigh while in town for a wedding. We had a glass of the Nine Hats Red Blend. Medium purple with a nose of blackberry jam, strawberries, vanilla, and a slight hint of sweet tobacco. Very much a fruit forward wine on the palate. Full bodied, this is a crowd pleaser. We had this by the glass at Vita Vite in Raleigh, NC. At $20 a bottle this is a great value. — 3 years ago

Sounds good, @Mike R Looking forward to connecting the next time I’m in town. I come to Raleigh 4-5 times a year. It was a busy, quick weekend. Friday - business meeting, rehearsal dinner, and high-school class reunion. Saturday - dinner with family and snuck away for a glass with the wife later that night. Sunday - wedding day. Back to Kentucky today. Taylor was a nice guy. Never knew about his wine shop just down the road from my folks house.
