A lovely and different wine. Perfumed nose and an unusual palette. If you are looking to try something different and flavorful try this wine. Blueberry mixed with vanilla and oak and a hint of sweetness. Unique and delicious. — 7 months ago
Amazing! Fruity and smooth — 2 years ago
I’ll stand by my June 24, 2021 rating. Consistently great. — 4 years ago
This clear yellow wine pours up very slightly frizzante, with a small collection of tiny bubbles clinging to the glass. On the nose there is a sweet apricot aroma mixed with a delicate blend of herbs and minerals. Those minerals drive the palate, which is exquisitely citrus. The acidity comes on strong, then softens through the sip into a gentle tingle. It is an elegant white wine, offering a perfect balance of herbal notes, earthiness and freshness. — 5 years ago
Earthy, capri lemon, mineral, and fennel in the bouquet.
Good acid profile (moderate to high), granite / chalky / earthy / peaty unctuousness going on.
Rocky/gravelly chew. Less green and more stony. — 2 months ago
As previous, still an enticing bracing lively lovely white to ring in Year of the Horse at Cindy’s — 4 months ago
Superb, mineral, crisp, yet luscious. — 9 months ago
Perfect with cacio e pepe — a year ago
Popped and poured. The 2020 Chardonnay “Ronco Basso” is quite compelling. I found that the fruit presented more round on the nose than it is on the palate, which showed a bright mix of tropical and citrus fruits with really lovely acid and fantastic minerality. The finish was long and full of energy. One of the more exciting Chardonnays I’ve had in a while. Drink now but will drink well for at least 10 years. — 3 years ago
The 2019 Schioppettino is remarkably pretty and floral, with violets and roses complementing its wild red berries and hints of smoke. This is soft-textured and lifted in feel, yet also packed full of fleshy raspberry fruit, as exotic spices build within. It leaves a tinge of sour citrus while finishing lightly structured and with a staining like liquid lavender. Lovers of Schioppettino will fall head over heels for the 2019. Spezie moltissimo pepe. Tannico. Molto. Manca di freschezza e sapidità. Molto secco. Profumo intenso di spezie. Lo trovo particolarmente intenso di spezie e manca un po' di frutto. Cmq ottimo ! Carnale e ferrico. — 5 years ago
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of 90 minutes. The 2023 “Buri Bellaria” Friulano pours a deep straw color with medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe orchard and some tropical fruit: peach cup, pear, ripe pineapple, Meyer lemon, and rocky, inorganic earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the texture is silky. Alcohol is medium+. A distinctive wine; full of beauty. Drink now through 2033. — 3 months ago
Great wine even though it didn’t hold up to my memories of former vintages, maybe because it’s a rare wine in its class that’s both excellent but drinks better young. It shed its primary character and left behind some ginger, vegetal tomato leaf and a silky texture with a long finish, driven by very prominent phenolic bitterness. Drinks like an austere high-quality white Bordeaux without the oak, but I miss the vibrant fruitiness and stronger Italian quality I get in its youth — 6 months ago
Nice and smooth with bright red fruit notes, would buy again! — 10 months ago
Some of us, being Nebbiolo supplicants, love Ghemme for its paradoxical meaty, bloody, yet light qualities. This has it in spades, on the edge of cherry cough syrup but never quite there. The woods, especially on the nose. This wine would benefit from a large glass.
It’s a bit of a sneaky, under the radar winery, hopefully for a bit still.
Lots of cherries, loam, dirt, blood, stoniness. Delicious. A ‘17 feels just about right. — 2 years ago
2022/6/8-10 with scallop crudo, homemade fresh tagliolini al Portonat, frico, etc. A nice mix of more “typical”, bright Sauvignon Blanc citrus and herbs with richer, stone fruit notes. Strong minerality, sneaky richness and plenty of acidity ensure a strong structure, and subtle depth keeps one coming back. — 4 years ago

last had this AUG 24 and it's still peaking, lil darker, bit of an oxidized quality to nose & palate, but still dynamic & complex, Rubenesque - so utterly enjoyable — a month ago
