Rudderless

Sellicks Hill Shiraz 2018

I’m seeing the same influence across the 3 Rudderless wines I bought - grenache (2017), malbec (2017) and this shiraz. A nice little study into terroir. All from a close collection of Sellicks Hill vines, the southern edge of McLaren Vale. All having a recognisably similar earthy, dried-herbs, mild spice dimension. This is the densest of them all, black/purple in the glass, black fruited, gravelly tannin, meaty but balanced. A shiraz with medium-bodied heft and balance - suits me! — 4 years ago

Sellicks Hill McLaren Vale Malbec 2017

I’m not overly familiar with Malbec but this tastes pretty good. Has the Rudderless earthy/bushy/herbal flavours as in the Grenache (Sellicks hill location, picks up the nice sea breeze and has a great view as I enjoyed from Doug Govern’s Victory Hotel). Nice spread and lovely tannin with a plusher fruit profile than the Grenache. Cracked it and drank straight away late afternoon. — 4 years ago

Sellicks Hill Grenache 2017

Really black grenache, dark in the glass, black fruited, earthy/bushy, dried herbs, light spice, savoury with a spread, light but grippy mouthfeel. Perhaps a little muted on the grenache flavours. Could almost be 93. — 4 years ago
