Lovely weight and taut. Mellowed sweetness with good length and a nice bit of pop on the end. Classic. — 4 months ago

Les Côtes Saint-Joseph Syrah 2022

Funny how sometimes I’m guilty of thinking “ letting the Brett blow off” to taste the main event. Here the development in the glass is the main event, which includes quite a bit of funk when first opening up. That the evolution includes wild blackberries & cassis, & the funk adds to the overall impression of something feral getting tamed, is all part of the fun. Fine grained & can be drunk young, but curious how it would fare in 8-10 years ( imagine a much more smoothed out development & sweetness). — 2 months ago

Lieu-Dit Saint-Joseph Syrah 2006

#AgedWineTuesday

Dark inky in color with a reddish rim.

Nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, light mildew, earth, herbs, spices, tobacco leaf, dark coffee, light forest floor and black pepper.

Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs.

Very dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppercorn, earth, dried meats, black tea and light vegetables.

Short finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 19 year old Syrah from Northern Rhône is still drinking nicely, although definitely not at its peak anymore.

Not in your face kind of wine at this point. Elegant, with nice complexity. Interesting, and still powerful.

Mildew and forest floor notes start to disappear after 90 minutes in the decanter. Still showing some fruit notes though, which is nice to see.

Good by itself or with food.

13% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$80.

This is finally drinking.

Nose: fleeting endless white flowers. Deep. Dense. Endless. Liquid white flowers. Insane.

Palate: a perfectness. Silky. A touch of richness. A presence. Magnificent. Reverberates.

A perfectness about this. A gleaming golden harmony that transcends any tasting note and exceeds the limits of language. .
