A mouthful to pronounce it may be, but this was my greatest experience to date with mature German Riesling, a 31-year-old Kabinett from the Kupfergrube, a vineyard nowadays utilised by the likes of Dönnhoff and Schäfer-Fröhlich.
This extraordinary wine took 20 minutes to open up having smelled and tasted quite tart and simple at first, but after this it offered the most effusive harmony of dried orange fruits, herbs, white tea and flowers, with a laser beam of zesty lime acidity throughout.
A truly memorable wine enjoyed with Goan butternut squash curry. — a year ago
