This is Larry Schaffer‘s fifth rendition of this single ‘different’ wine, which he tweaks each year depending on his mood, and the fruit available. In this vintage, he combined 60% Cinsault with 40% Granache - all Santa Barbara fruit. Foot stomped, fermented 100% whole cluster on their stems, then pressed and aged entirely in stainless steel. What results is a light, vibrant colored wine, bursting with aromatics. 12% ABV, he recommends serving it slightly chilled. 6 barrels produced $40 — 14 days ago

Un tempranillo mezcla de rioja. este es mi tercero tempranillo desde rioja. espero sentirme un caballero. first scent was coke (cola) on the cork. hue is extremely dark. No clarity much turbidity in broad daylight. slight note of sweet cherry. much barrel and deep tannic tones of turbulence i find terrific. sour cherry on the tongue. Ripe, round gold in the glass, nice medium weight on the palate. Lychee, ripe apricot, ripe peach and a bit of earthy funk. This wine rocks at six years of age. Still displaying amazing fruit/acid balance and probably capable of a couple more years. Larry Schaffer deserves full props for beautiful Rhône varietals at nice QPR. Cheers! — 6 years ago

Michigan Syrah! Believe this was a special [small] production wine and it was really impressive - very Old World style reminiscent of a Crozes with barnyard funk and meat and white pepper and blue/black fruit, camphor and spice and damp soil - all over the place, evolving, lighter weight but a ton of flavors, decent acidity too but bit abrupt on finish.
