9.5

Super expressive nose of luscious Gamay fruit. Super grapey and very carbonic. Loads of berry and jelly donut. Huge spice and depth. The nose is so expansive. Smells like a fruitier Thivin. Floral like nothing else. Mashed flowers. But so fresh and at peak bloom. Palate is gorgeous with high toned grippy berry fruit and very suave tannins. High acid here. Florals are such vivid roses. Terrific freshness and concentration. Sappy and so dense and this is a Gamay for the long haul. What a finish. Keeps snaking all over your palate for minutes. Now way way floral after air. This is 40% whole bunch. So aromatic. Amazing sweet fruit and tannins. 23 bottled 5 months earlier than it was in 21. Loess soil. What a finish just keeps going and going. This really needs 3-4 years. Now after 8 hours nose is darkly floral, meaty, dark in general. Palate is super supple and sweet with awesome juiciness and length. So good. 9.3 to 9.4. Much more expansive and supple toddy. Really broad floral aromas and stunning supple texture. 9.4 to 9.5. — 3 months ago

Beaujolais Villages Rosé Gamay 2022

Georgeous salmon- colored. Nice acidity with some light citrusy notes. Nice long finish. Excellent rose. Having this with garden heirloom tomatoes( Black Krim and Cuore de Bue), sea salt, pepper, and a single vineyard Sicilian EVOO. Such a beautiful evening here! — 4 months ago

Les Griottes de Brulhié Côte de Brouilly Gamay 2022

9.5

Gorgeous red berry fruit on the nose and some spice and a big time grapiness. Smoke as well and gorgeous wet earth. So classic. Lipstick like intensity. Palate is teeming with energy and crunch and amazing clarity to the red fruits. Long, juicy and very pure. Nice hit of opulence in the mid and very sapid finish. Succulent and so delicious. Unreal focus here. Nose is super floral now. Wow. This might be a 9.5. Overnight this goes to a 9.5 as it gets supernal balance and just unreal mouthfeel and depth. My favorite of this bottling ever. — 6 months ago

Cuvée La Chapelle Côte de Brouilly Gamay 2022

Apropos, the vines for “La Chapelle” are adjacent to the chapel perched at the very top of the Mont Brouilly where it is quite dry and the soil is very poor. The vineyard is also remarkably steep making manual harvest essential.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of three days. Fairly consistent throughout but I felt it was most enjoyable on Day 2 and 3. The 2022 “La Chapelle” pours a deep ruby/purple color; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is youthful and fresh with beautiful notes of tart blackberries, red plum, wet stone, a combination of red and purple flowers, licorice, dried green herbs, some wood varnish. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and has a stiff spine of minerals. This is a cerebral wine compared to “Godefroy” (which is almost quaffable in comparison). Drinking well now to enjoy its freshness but will undoubtedly drink well through 2037+. Thanks for the assist

I love these but for me leaner vintages (2021/2014) are the true stars.

@Lyle Fass I bet Godefroy in particular during leaner years whereas La Chapelle is better in the more solar years. I feel the same way about a lot of CdP…probably why I love 2014 so much.

Cuvée Godefroy Côte de Brouilly Gamay 2022

The Godefroy lieu-dit sits below the Brouilly hill, to the east. The vines here are very old; some over a century!

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two days. Fairly consistent throughout. The 2022 “Godefroy” pours a deep ruby/purple color; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with perfumed notes of ripe strawberries, Rainier cherry, red plum, forest floor, and red flowers. There’s also a slight funky note, a sort of mushroom thing that I really liked. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+; almost chewy. Compared to the “La Chapelle” from earlier in the week, Godefroy is rounder; a bit more fun, flirty and funky whereas “La Chapelle” is darker fruited, more chiseled; stony and sexy. Drinking well now and through 2037+. Thanks for the assist

Clos de Rochebonne Beaujolais Blanc Chardonnay 2018

This is nice - I had it about a year ago (8.8) and now she's really coming into her own. Super-ripe almost funky 🍄 melon and mineral on the nose (more than most chards will give us). The melon carries through to the mouth with a silky malo texture that almost imparts a sense of residual sugars. It's only the finish reminds you that this ain't from one of them fancy parts of Burgundy like Cote-DU-Bone.

A good value at $25

Famille Geoffray Côte de Brouilly Gamay 2019

It’s such an interesting wine to me because it shifts so dramatically w age & air: at five years it’s drinking quite nicely, with a much more vibrant fruit profile than I’ve had w other bottles & previous vintages. Tasted blind my buddy thought Languedoc & quite jammy. To my palate not jammy as fruits more small berry & not so open knit. For some reason I’ve never seemed to open these bottles at the right time, save for now, which makes me think 🤔 m a damn poor judge or these bottles are finicky, or both! Quite refined & elegant, fine black currants & blackberries. — 4 months ago
