Wombat Crossing Vineyard

Westside Crossing

Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

Medium ruby color. Aromas of cherry, cranberry and rose petals. Very good Pinot overall, red fruit on the palate, baking spice and black tea.

Loren Crossing

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2023

2023 vintage. Medium body. Dark fruit mated with grip. Good balance with a modicum of richness at the start. Resto cost $15 a bottle on 3 cases. This is easily the most ridiculous, cheap chicken, Napa Cab offer I've come across in a decade. Word in the barrel room is that this is declassified juice from a major Cabernet player/participant that can't be tied into this effort. Tasted their Sauvignon Blanc (and I intently dislike SB) as well and it rocked for a similar price. Approx 5k cases of this Cab made so you might actually come across it. if you do, grab a case. 03.21.25. β€” 7 months ago

Juniper Estate

Juniper Crossing Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2017

Bought this as an afterthought and quite pleased that I did. It's complex and rich, with blackcurrant/plum fruit, cedary oak and soft tannins all on the same page. Great value. β€” 4 years ago

Kanonkop Estate

Simonsberg Stellenbosch Pinotage 2019

And now to South Africa! Where they produce some awesome en es for decent prices. The Pinotage was created there. A crossing between Pinot Noir and Cinsault (which was called Hermitage in its olden days). It tastes like a Pinot Noir on steroids. But, when Kanonkop gets its hands on it they lift it up to a sensational experience. Vibrant, intense and layered with flavors. Their black label is their cream of the crop sourced from old vines. β€” 4 months ago

Giant Steps

Single Vineyard Wombat Creek Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018

This is such an incredibly good Pinot noir - starting to get a touch of brick in the rim, it has pronounced aroma of cherry, violet, dried rose petal, orange zest, black cherry, wild strawberries, forest floor, and wild thyme (an unexpected garrigue-like note). Great finesse and elegance with the acidity giving a lean edge to the flavors and a terrifically long finish. A real tour de force of skill in the cellar. It will be good for another few years but drinking really well right now. β€” 3 years ago

Chenoweth Vineyard Chardonnay 2017

Very delicious and multi dimensional chardonnay. Croissant, pineapple, pear, marshmallow, and lemon. Good acidity too. You have to like Chardonnay to like this wine. Not for the ABC crowd. β€” 4 years ago

Giant Steps

Single Vineyard Wombat Creek Vineyard Chardonnay 2021

This wine has a beautiful balance of stone and tropical fruit with crisp but not overbearing acidity. Acacia, Lemon, green apple, white peach and thyme happily nestle with vanilla, clove and a hint of hazelnut that gives a clue to lively future development. Medium body, and a long finish that leaves the palate refreshed and longing for another sip. β€” 5 months ago

Delicious. Not as good after a day, drink it all the day it’s opened. β€” 10 months ago

Winemakers' Cellar Dry Creek Valley Chardonnay 2018

First thing: much earthier than I anticipated. Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of ripe fruit: lemon πŸ‹, pineapple 🍍, and apricot πŸ‘. But before the fruit, there’s smoky minerality πŸ’¨ and dried thyme 🌱 followed by hazelnut. 🌰
