Wild Dog Winery

Warragul Sparkling Pinot Noir Chardonnay 2011

I’m a bubbles girl, there’s no doubt about that.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Last weekend Mr Spittoon and I went for brunch at the Wa-De-Lock Cellar Door Cafe in Stratford. The cafe stocks a number of local wines and beers which you can buy to take away. I spotted this Wild Dog 2011 Sparkling from West Gippsland for $30 and thought it’d be rude not to buy a bottle to try 😉
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I had a good read of the back label on this bottle which said the vineyard (just south of Warragul) was established in 1982 and they have 11 different grape 🍇 varieties in their vineyard! I did a bit of searching online about this but couldn’t find any further info, I’m intrigued 🤔 I’ll keep researching I think, but in the mean time here’s what I thought of this sparkling wine made from Pinot & Chardonnay...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the glass it’s a eye-catching pale gold shade with biscuits, baking spice and citrus notes rising from the glass. In the mouth it’s smooth and refreshing with lovely flavours of pears mixed with some tropical fruits, a hint of nuts and crisp citrus.

Pol Roger

Extra Cuvée De Réserve Vintage Brut Champagne 2008

Mr Spittoon and I had a little celebration this week. However I do strongly believe that Champagne isn’t just for celebrations. It’s for whenever the mood strikes (and bank balance allows it 💵).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💗Pol Roger was one of the first French 🇫🇷 champagnes I tried when I was 18 and I fell in love instantly. I spotted this 2008 vintage at Dan Murphy’s for $115 and couldn’t resist. Here’s what I thought...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
📝 It’s a very pale golden hue in the glass. The nose has an abundance of grapefruit citrus, fresh herbs and milk arrowroot biscuits 🍪 . While in the mouth it’s ultra smooth and silky with refreshing orange 🍊 citrus and tasty pineapple 🍍 flavours coming through. YUM!

Bichat

Brut Champagne Blend

Sparkle ✨ like champagne is a pretty good motto if you ask me. This bottle of Champagne Bichat Brut I picked up for $25 from BWS. I was looking for a cheap and cheerful Prosecco but instead spotted this and thought we’d give it a whirl.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the glass it’s a golden-lemon colour with sherbet, vanilla biscuits and grapefruit on the nose. In the mouth it’s smooth and creamy with fruity notes, hints of baking spice and a slurp of crisp lemon. A refreshing bubbles at a decent price point.

G.H. von Mumm

Edition 4 Limitée Brut Champagne Blend

Happy #WineWednesday everyone! Milestones whether they’re in life or business should be celebrated. Which is why Mr Spittoon and I are having a little celebration this month for my business which has hit a record high this month, not just in sales but happy clients too 🍾🙌
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We recently tried the Mumm Champagne Special Edition 6 year old and really enjoyed it, so we thought we’d try the 4 year old this time for $57 a pop. These special edition champagnes spend longer than normal on the lees which gives them more richness and complexity.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I find the 4 a pretty white gold colour in the glass with fresh spiced pear, lychee and a hint of brioche on the nose. While in the mouth it’s smooth, juicy and incredibly thirst quenching. A lovely champagne however I think I’d pick the 6 over the 4 if I had to 😜

Bollinger

Brut Rosé Champagne Blend

Can we start a trend of champagne on Mondays please? I have to admit this Champagne Bollinger Non-Vintage Rosé went down very well last night... #champagnemondays
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Okay so we were celebrating our wedding anniversary 👰 🤵 but I’m a huge advocate for champagne on any day #justsayin
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mr Spittoon and I choose to forgo anniversary presents and instead splurge on a nice bottle of champagne and dinner. The special bottle we ordered is actually still on the way, so this Bolli was a very tasty warm up 😜
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the glass it’s a onion skin shade with teeny tiny bubbles. The nose is fill of raspberries, strawberries, mandarins and musk lollies. While in the mouth it has a smooth texture with an elegant cocktail of juicy peach, raspberries and lime flavours. For $140, I’d buy it again 🍾

Happy #WineWednesday
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It was travellingcorkscrew.com.au’s 8th year anniversary this week. To celebrate Mr Spittoon and I cracked into this Lanson Gold Label 2005 Champagne we picked up for $70.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can read more about me and the TC in my celebratory post -> https://travellingcorkscrew.com.au/blog/eighth-birthday/
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the glass it’s a lovely golden shade with plentiful dancing bubbles 💃. The nose is rather toasty with zesty citrusy and a whiff of anise and spice. In the mouth it has a smooth rich flavour with spiced citrus tarts and notes of banana passionfruit. Brilliant value for money 🙌
