This week's must-try wines are from Antonio Galloni’s article, Everyday Piedmont, Part 1 . Enjoy an excerpt from this article and notes for this week's top ten below! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ “Piedmont has so much to offer the curious wine lover. Barolo and Barbaresco are now firmly established among the world’s greatest reds. Alto Piemonte has made huge strides in recent years. But there is so much more to Piedmont beyond those famous appellations and wines. In the hands of the best growers, Dolcetto, Barbera, Langhe Nebbiolo and Piedmont’s other reds and whites deliver the same qualities that have made the region’s top bottlings so coveted. These are artisan wines from family-run domaines that convey a sense of place.” --Antonio Galloni, Everyday Piedmont, Part 1, September 2021 1. 2019 Albino Rocca Langhe Nebbiolo Rosso di Rocca 2. 2018 F.lli Cigliuti Barbera d'Alba Vigna Serraboella 3. 2019 F.lli Cigliuti Langhe Nebbiolo 4. 2018 Gaja Gaia & Rey 5. 2019 G.D. Langhe Nebbiolo 2020

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2020 Langhe Nebbiolo is a great example of the year at its best. Freshly cut flowers, raspberry, spice, mint and cinnamon give this racy, beautifully perfumed Langhe Nebbiolo its undeniable appeal. The 2020 is an especially fine vintage for this bottling, as it has fabulous balance. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2021)

Coste & Fossati Dolcetto d'Alba 2019

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2019 Dolcetto d'Alba Coste & Fossati is laced with wild dark cherry, plum, spice, leather, tobacco, incense and scorched earth. In this vintage, the Coste & Fossati is a bit more aromatic and less weighty than it can be, but it is nevertheless delicious, not to mention one of the most distinctive Dolcettos readers will come across. Azienda Agricola F.lli Cigliuti

Serraboella Barbera d'Alba 2018

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2018 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Serraboella is a real standout. After going through dozens of frankly innocuous Dolcettos, Barbera and Langhe Nebbiolos I was thrilled to taste a wine of true distinction. Rich, ample and generous, the 2018 possesses superb depth and complexity. A rush of black cherry, plum, mocha, spice and licorice lead into the sumptuous finish. What a wine! Martinenga Langhe Nebbiolo 2019

Delectable Wine
8.9

The 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo Martinenga is pretty, silky and gracious, as the Grésy wines always are. Bright red berry fruit, crushed flowers and spice are nicely lifted in this fresh, mid-weight offering. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2021)

Langhe Nebbiolo 2018

Delectable Wine
8.9

The 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo is an attractive wine to drink now and over the next few years. Dried cherry, mint, dried flowers, licorice and rose petal are nicely delineated. Don't wait too long on this. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2021)

Gaja

Gaia & Rey Langhe Chardonnay 2018

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2018 Gaia & Rey offers up a whole range of tropical and orchard fruit flavors, showing an extra kick of creaminess that is surprising given the cool vintage and the decision to fully block the malolactic fermentation. Passion fruit, pastry, spice and a kick of well-judged oak build nicely in the glass. The 2018 finishes with lovely tension and energy. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2021)

Albino Rocca

Rosso Di Rocca Langhe Nebbiolo 2019

Delectable Wine
8.8

The 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo Rosso di Rocca is a perfumed, bright red to drink now and over the next year or two, while the crushed red berry fruit and floral notes remain vibrant. This mid-weight, aromatic Langhe Nebbiolo is all charm. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2021)

La Spinetta

Cà di Pian Barbera d'Asti 2018

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2018 Barbera d'Asti Ca' di Pian is plump, juicy and absolutely delicious. Dark cherry, plum, spice and chocolate are all kicked up in this succulent, open-knit Barbera from La Spinetta. Drink it over the next handful of years. As always, the Ca' di Pian overdelivers for the money. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2021)

Dolcetto d'Alba 2019

Delectable Wine
8.9

The 2019 Dolcetto d'Alba is fresh, fruity and absolutely delicious. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit and licorice are nicely layered. Drink this mid-weight, perfumed, classically built Dolcetto over the next handful of years. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2021)

Azienda Agricola F.lli Cigliuti

Langhe DOC Nebbiolo 2019

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo is an absolute delight. Aromatic, nuanced and fleshy, the Cigliuti's Langhe Nebbiolo outperforms pretty much most of its peer group, showing notable depth as well as pedigree. This is a very serious wine. Then again, the Langhe Nebbiolo is a cask of Barbaresco Via Erte that simply sees a shorter aging regime than the Barbaresco itself. It is one of the hidden gems in Piedmont.
