Freshly cut flowers, raspberry, spice, mint and cinnamon give this racy, beautifully perfumed Langhe Nebbiolo its undeniable appeal. The 2019 Dolcetto d'Alba Coste & Fossati is laced with wild dark cherry, plum, spice, leather, tobacco, incense and scorched earth. In this vintage, the Coste & Fossati is a bit more aromatic and less weighty than it can be, but it is nevertheless delicious, not to mention one of the most distinctive Dolcettos readers will come across. Rich, ample and generous, the 2018 possesses superb depth and complexity. A rush of black cherry, plum, mocha, spice and licorice lead into the sumptuous finish. What a wine! The 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo is an absolute delight. Aromatic, nuanced and fleshy, the Cigliuti's Langhe Nebbiolo outperforms pretty much most of its peer group, showing notable depth as well as pedigree. This is a very serious wine. Then again, the Langhe Nebbiolo is a cask of Barbaresco Via Erte that simply sees a shorter aging regime than the Barbaresco itself. It is one of the hidden gems in Piedmont.
