It has ancient roots but modern appeal. At its most basic rendition, it is friendly and fruity, an Italian equivalent of Beaujolais. At its most complex, it is one of Italy’s Kings of Wine/Wine of Kings. Ripasso? That’s a Valpolicella. Amarone? That’s a Valpolicella. Recioto? That’s a Valpolicella. We all think we know it… but do we?
