Enjoy his notes for this week's must-try below! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ “The last few vintages in Montalcino have been varied, with drastic climate events defining each season. However, winemakers understand that there is no new normal. Every year brings a different set of challenges, resulting in a unique and, in the case of 2022, charming selection of wines.” --Eric Guido, The Magic of 2022 Rosso di Montalcino, September 2024 1. 2022 Argiano Rosso di Montalcino 2. 2019 Pian dell'Orino Rosso di Montalcino 3. 2022 Pietroso Rosso di Montalcino 4. 2022 Sesti Rosso di Montalcino 5. 2020 Frescobaldi – Luce della Vite Luce

Marchesi de' Frescobaldi

Luce della Vite Toscana Sangiovese Merlot 2020

Delectable Wine
9.2

A delicate whiff of dusty dried violets gives way to cedary spice and crushed plums as the 2020 Luce slowly opens in the glass. This is soothingly round and supple with cooling acidity and a tinge of minerality up front. Tart red berry fruits swirl across a stream of zesty acidity. The 2020 displays fantastic depth and concentration, tapering off long and gently tannic as black raspberries pucker the cheeks. This is a very approachable vintage of Luce, yet the balance is spot on. Nicely done. (Eric Guido, Vinous, September 2024)

Sesti (Castello di Argiano)

Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese 2022

Delectable Wine
9.1

Darkly floral, the 2022 Rosso di Montalcino opens with a blend of grilled herbs, exotic spices and steeped plums. It's a racy and fruit-forward effort with masses of ripe red and blue fruits swirling across a lively acidity stream. This tapers off with medium length and gently tannic, leaving a lovely resonance of inner rose. (Eric Guido, Vinous, September 2024)

Pian dell'Orino

Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese 2019

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2019 Rosso di Montalcino is dreamy, wafting up with dusty rose, crushed cherries and sage. This flows across the palate with ease, energetic and lifted with a solid core of ripe wild berry fruits that slowly drench the palate in youthful tension. A coating of fine-grained tannins remains offset by a bump of residual acidity, tapering off spicy and long. This is maturing beautifully in bottle. (Eric Guido, Vinous, September 2024)

Pietroso

Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese 2022

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2022 Rosso di Montalcino is cool-toned and fresh, with a cascade of perfumed florals, white smoke and dried strawberries forming its bouquet. It is soft-textured and round, with vibrant acidity and juicy wild-berry fruits that cascade throughout. Violet and lavender tones linger as the 2022 finishes spicy and spry with a gentle tug of fine tannin. (Eric Guido, Vinous, September 2024)

Argiano

Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese 2022

Delectable Wine
9.0

Aromatically intense, the 2022 Rosso di Montalcino holds nothing back. It's vividly fruit forward yet with a burst of wild herbs and exotic spice to balance. This is harmonious and pure on the palate, with ample energy and verve as a cascade of crisp wild berry fruits swirl throughout. Only gently tannic yet full of youthful tension, the 2022 finishes fresh yet potent. (Eric Guido, Vinous, September 2024)
