This week's must-try wines are from Antonio Galloni’s most recent additions to his article, 2019 Barolo: Back on Track . Enjoy his notes for this week's must-try below! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ “After the highly problematic and uneven 2018s, Barolo bounces back with a stellar vintage in 2019 that could very well represent the beginning of a new cycle of strong, outstanding years for this historic appellation. The 2019s are potent, tightly wound wines that will thrill readers who appreciate the nuance, subtlety and structure of Nebbiolo. Today, the 2019s show elements of youthful austerity that, at times, recall vintages such as 2016, 2005 and 1999. The only thing 2019 lacks is some of the visceral excitement found in the very best years, although the top wines certainly check all the boxes.” --Antonio Galloni, 2019 Barolo: Back on Track, November 2023 1. 2019 Azelia Barolo Margheria 2. 2019 Azelia Barolo Bricco Fiasco 3. 2019 Cavallotto Barolo Bricco Boschis 4. 2017 Cavallotto Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe 5. 2019 Diego Conterno Barolo Le Coste di Monforte 6. 2019 Diego Conterno Barolo 7. 2019 Ettore Germano Barolo Cerretta 8. 2019 Ettore Germano Barolo Prapò 9. 2019 Luigi Vico Barolo Prapò 10. 2019 Renato Ratti Barolo Marcenasco

Renato Ratti

Marcenasco Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2019 Barolo Marcenasco will delight Ratti fans. It offers up a compelling mix of sweet red-toned fruit, blood orange, mint, white pepper and cedar in a super-classic style that has not been seen here in a very long time. Medium in body and translucent, with fine balance, the 2019 is a winner. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2023)

Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2019 Barolo is powerful, burly and full of character. Although not especially refined, the straight Barolo has a ton of personality. Time in the glass brings out scents to tobacco, dried herbs, lavender, cedar and menthol. I would give this a good bit of air. There's a lot going on here. This is really quite impressive in its peer group, and beyond that, too. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2023)

Cavallotto

Bricco Boschis Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2019 Barolo Bricco Boschis is an absolutely gorgeous wine that needs plenty of air to open. Bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, rose petal, cinnamon, star anise and mint all grace this mid-weight, wonderfully expressive Barolo. It has been some years since I have tasted a Cavallotto Barolo with this kind of translucent old-school classicism. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2023)

Luigi Vico

Prapò Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2019 Barolo Prapò is laced with dark red cherry fruit, chalk, mint, white pepper and a host of savory/mineral underpinnings that add complexity. In this tasting, the 2019 comes across as a bit tight and nervous, but that should not be an issue for readers who can be patient. The muscle and drive of Serralunga really come through on the finish. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2023)

Le Coste di monforte Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2019 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte is a gorgeous, exotic, intriguing wine. Dried flowers, mint, lavender, spice, tobacco and incense are all beautifully delineated. Ample and vibrant, with tons of depth, the 2019 is absolutely compelling today. The 2019 offers tons of Le Coste power, and a good deal of finesse as well. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, December 2023)

Azelia

Bricco Fiasco Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2019 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is bright, precise and nicely delineated. Sweet red cherry, mint, white pepper and orange peel give this mid-weight, nervy young Barolo plenty of top register intensity. Deceptively understated and nuanced, the 2019 is going to be interesting to follow. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2023)

Germano Ettore

Prapò Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2019 Barolo Prapò is packed with dark fruit, leather, smoke, tobacco, incense and mocha. The darker, more somber side of Serralunga comes through in this decidedly virile, imposing Barolo. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2023)

Germano Ettore

Cerretta Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2019 Barolo Cerretta marries power and vibrancy to great effect. Pressed dried flowers, iron, white pepper, smoke and blood orange lift a core of bright red-toned fruit. Lively acids and incisive tannins give the wine its overall feel. This is a gorgeous and super promising wine from Sergio Germano. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2023)

Cavallotto

Vigna San Giuseppe Riserva Bricco Boschis Barolo Nebbiolo 2017

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2017 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe is redolent of dark fruits, leather, incense, tobacco, lavender and dried herbs. This strapping, muscular Barolo has a ton to offer. All it needs is to soften a bit, and whether or not that happens is something of an open question at this stage. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2023)

Azelia

Margheria Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2019 Barolo Margheria is laced with sage, menthol, licorice, underbrush, dried herbs and sage. This sinewy Serralunga Barolo has good depth, although it is on the lighter side structurally for this cru. Nevertheless, the wine's persistence makes up for that to some degree.
