This Week's Must-Try Wines from Vinous

Welcome to this week's Must-Try Wines from Vinous! Each week we compile a list of wines from the Vinous database that you need to add to your wine wish list. With all the various regions, producers, and grapes, no week will be the same! All of the wines listed in this feature are available for purchase on Banquet . This week's must-try wines are from Antonio Galloni’s most recent additions to his article, The 2023 Champagne New Releases . Enjoy his notes for this week's must-try below! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ “Champagne is one of the most dynamic regions in the world. Change and innovation continue at an increasingly fast pace. Many of the most coveted wines now command Burgundy-like premiums, a relatively recent phenomenon here. There’s a lot more going on beyond the obvious, though, and plenty to explore.” --Antonio Galloni, The 2023 Champagne New Releases, November 2023 1. Tellier Champagne

La Goutte d'Or Extra Brut Fontaine Sur-Ay Pinot Noir 2018

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2018 Extra Brut La Goutte d’Or shows all the richness of 100% Pinot Noir but in a stressed site that confers notable tension. Kirsch, citrus peel, white flowers and chalk abound. Tense and vibrant, with gorgeous depth, the 2018 is so impressive. Emerging from a chalky site in Fontaine-sur-Aÿ with almost no topsoil, there is a sincerity to this wine that is hard to express but very much present. Dosage is 2 grams per liter. Disgorged: November, 2022. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2023)

Deutz

Amour de Deutz Millésime Brut Rosé Champagne 2013

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2013 Brut Rosé Millésimé Amour de Deutz shows a bit more seriousness than the last time I tasted it, about two years ago. It remains a gracious, lifted Rosé, but time has amplified the mineral edge such that the 2013 today is quite nervy and brilliant, with little, if any, loss of freshness. Cranberry, mint, orange peel, white flowers and crushed rocks all race through to the intensely saline, sculpted finish. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2023)

Larmandier-Bernier

Les Chemins D'Avize Millésime Grand Cru Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne 2015

Delectable Wine
9.5

The 2015 Extra Brut Les Chemins d'Avize Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru is a broad, ample Champagne that reflects both vinification in wood and time on the lees. Lemon confit, marzipan, dried flowers, chamomile, sage and spice build in the glass. Powerful and resonant, with no hard edges, the 2015 is terrific. It's also a throwback to the style of the time, and one I must say I like a lot. This is a fine effort for the year. Dosage is 2 grams per liter. Disgorged: September 1, 2022. Agrapart & Fils (Pascal Agrapart)

7 Crus Brut Champagne Chardonnay

Delectable Wine
9.0

The NV Brut 7 Crus is a very pretty, entry-level wine in this range. Bright, mineral and intensely vibrant, the 7 Crus is all energy. All the elements are so well proportioned. A blend of 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir, this captures all the house signatures with tons of energy and better overall balance than in some previous editions. White flowers, chalk and citrus linger. Dosage is 6 grams per liter. Disgorged: June, 2023. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2023)

Larmandier-Bernier

Terre de Vertus Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Champagne 1er Cru Chardonnay 2016

Delectable Wine
9.6

The 2016 Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Terre de Vertus 1er Cru is fabulous. Comprised of 100% Chardonnay from two mid-slope parcels in Vertus, it is perfumed and exotic, with striking aromatics. This cuvée straddles the line between still and sparkling wine. Lime, mint, white pepper and chalk lend tons of high-toned character. The 2016 is really quite compelling. Bottled with no dosage. Disgorged: November 1, 2023. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2023)

Gosset

Celebris Brut Champagne Blend 2007

Delectable Wine
9.6

The 2012 Brut Celebris is one of the most polished Champagnes I have tasted from Gosset in some time. Plenty of energy and acidity have long been signatures of this prestige cuvée, but a bit more meat on the bones keeps the wine from veering into the realm of the excessively austere, as was sometimes the case in the past. Dried lemon confit, chamomile, white pepper and salt all race across the palate. I very much admire the energy here. This blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir spent ten years on lees and saw a dosage of 5.5 grams per liter. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2023)
