2009 Bodegas DiamAndes: DiamAndes de Uco, Grand Reserve, Malbec-Cabernet
Clos de las Siete, Valle de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina
14.5% ABV
Appearance: Deep, dark, purplish-red, with a pink meniscus. Plenty of well formed tears, hinting at higher alcohol content
Nose: Blueberries, white pepper, plum, green pepper, allspice, bit of a toasty quality
Taste: cherry, small hints of vanilla, meatiness, almost sense some chalky minerals on finish. As it the wine opens more red fruits come forward and the acidity seems to calm down (or is my tongue getting used to it?). Has a certain creaminess 3/4 of the way through.
Mouthfeel: acidic at first leading to later strongish tannins and some heat, seems to mellow out after first glass.
Next day (after vacuum sealing): nose still holding up well and similar to yesterday. Taste has a bit of licorice, more astringent with some alcohol coming through on finish.
