Castle Rock EstateDark Ruby red in colour. Spicy and peppery on the nose with a touch of red licorice. Barely medium bodied palate showing red cherry, spice and pepper. Love this cool climate style of Shiraz - this from the Porongurups just to the north of the town of Albany in Western Australia. Had a tasting with the winemaker, Rob Diletti, on Christmas Eve 2019. A very skilled winemaker and wine show judge in high demand around Australia. Had another bottle 54 weeks later on 12th July 2022 with the same notes. Plum minerality and black pepper stand out. Love this style.

Jun 28th, 2021Consistent notes from a year ago when we visited the winery in Porongurup WA and spent a wonderful hour with Owner and winemaker Rob Diletti. I love these cool climate peppery Shirazes. Should leave having the next one for a couple of years.

Dec 5th, 2020Drank a bottle of this only a week ago so notes are consistent. Rich crimson in colour showing its youth. Masses of black pepper and spice from this cooler year. Medium weight palate with great texture and length. Rob Diletti the winemaker is a big believer in wines being totally expressive of the site they are grown in he told me - “All about the soil”. Terrific QPR. Bought a total of about 4 1/2 dozen from 5 different wineries over here in the Great South and said to send at the end of March. Ridiculously hot in Australia at the moment to be shipping wine. At Little Italy Restaurant in Albany.
