Cecilia Beretta
'Soraie' Veneto IGT Red Blend
Rustic. Damp soil, truffle, black pepper. Plum, black cherry, cranberry. Leather. Acid and minerals in the finish. Would not be my go-to bottle, but $7.99 @ trader joes is pure theft.

Apr 9th, 2020Was all over the map with this wine. Was unsure initially before coming around and then retreating back to unsure. Will need to give this another try. I think it's fair to say that if you go into this expecting a more traditional valpo profile will be taken a back. Came to learn this is around 40 % merlot with only around 20% corvina among other grapes which I am guessing led to the odd profile - at least compared to what I was expecting. Also I am probably over analyzing, as this isn't bad for 8 bucks.

Mar 12th, 2017Had this wine with desert on Christmas eve and it was a hit with everyone. Dry enough to contrast with desert but not too acidic. Slightly oaky/buttery but definitely less so than a straight merlot, which is great because my wife doesn't go for strong oak flavors. This is going on my shortlist of favorite wines.

Apr 16th, 2016Copious notes of blueberry, dried cherry, cranberry, and baking spice with drying tannins in the finish. Would be a spectacular pizza wine but is just fine solo. 40% Merlot, 30% Corvina, 20% Cab, 10% Croatina. $8.
