Lovely savory fruit. Sale leather and iron inflected red fruit. Some spice and lovely rounded, balanced, resolved fruit. Long and pure and excellent. Great stuff

Happy 60th birthday, William Martin! Lovely. Didn’t just hold up, it thrived and is still full of life. Delicious.

This is the second bottle. More concentration, density with a broader stance. Drinking younger than the first. Hard to decide, but I give a nudge to the first bottle for its beauty and delicacy.

So much life here, energy and freshness to spare. Lovely mature fruits, woodsy complexity over a velour texture.

From magnum; slow-oxed for three hours.

Lovely deep colour, with healthy (not flabby) bricking, though slightly shaken up from the car journey (despite having held it tightly all the way); enchanting nose, like standing in the depths of a cedar forest! Also hints of peppery leather, sweet liquorice, and pencil shavings. Lovely depth to the nose, permeating into the room as the meal progressed. Wonderful length (40s or more) and great balance, with well integrated but still firmish tannins and fantastically poised acidity.

I inspected the dregs the following morning (see picture) and the bottle still smelled amazing - even stronger than the night before, though the wine itself had started to flag a bit. Nonetheless an amazing drop!

Amber red. Nose of pencil lead, graphite stone, wood box, red fruit. Round in mouth. Light mid palate with some smoke and dried fruit. After some air this added more weight and gained complexity. Very refined. Paired well with my lamb chops.

Wow. So thankful Hough opened this wine. Tasted fresh, like a 20 year wine. Real Benchmark wine.
