Château Malescot St. Exupéry
Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend
California like Claret. Very purple and plum, fig and coffee. Not bad but very modern and forward.

May 15th, 2021This is the bottle I opened but not the wine I’ve had! Totally faked or doctored.
I’ve had enough of this wine and comparable Bordeaux’s to know this was not right.
Probably an over the hill (2000-2004) Australian or California Cabernet that is over oak’d, fruit forward, from a mediocre producer. Outside chance it’s a Spanish Priorat.
Wine actually wasn’t bad, but not as advertised!!

Nose of pine nuts and resin with a hint of pipe tobacco. Almost smells like an Anchor Christmas ale after it has aged 3 years. The entry was quite a bit more sweet than I expected. Tobacco and dates with a plum and spice. Finishes slightly stiff but not a bad thing here as I think I prefer these on this side of the hill before they get more raucous. 20+ years ahead.

Jul 6th, 2019Emergency bottle as our first wine of the night, a White Chateauneuf, was not good.
PnP but needs air. More restrained than previous bottles of this vintage. Nose is deep cherry and tar. Palate has excellent texture and the dark cherry and menthol show through. Medium finish.

30+ minute decant. Could probably use more. Dark red color. Menthol, Cherry, and Meat/BBQ on the nose. Wine is very fruit forward and lacks the earthiness I was looking forward to. Some oak I didn’t expect as well. Medium finish that is ever so harsh. I absolutely loved the 2000 vintage and thought this would be better, but it wasn’t even close. Solid Bordeaux but not what I was expecting.
