Beautiful wine! At a great spot right now, loads of tertiary notes but still balancing its fruit and structure nicely. Dried black cherry, stewed black plum, fig, wilted violet, tar, cured meat/pink salt, beef blood, fur, sous bois, bay leaf, pipe tobacco, hoisin, bitter cocoa. There’s that distinctive sharp mineral note, call it limestone. A clean and more concise example of the appellation.

2001 vintage. Light-medium body. Throwing caution to the wind as this seemed about 2-3 years past the exact prime but still dirty, tawdry fun at present. Fading fruit surrounded by earth tones and spices. 4.8.26.
