Imperial Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend
La Rioja, SpainWhen playing poker, it's always important to mentally breakdown your opponents by serving old Rioja. My knees are still shaking.

Plenty of American oak on the nose. Dill & vanilla with some dark plum aromatics. Medium bodied with a classy weight & texture. The oaky notes are there, but a pretty array of red fruit & tobacco leaf add some complexity. Structure is receding at this point and the wine is beginning to show some clove & herbal secondary character. Excellent.

Cork was loose and some minor seepage but wine was nice. Think seepage added a candied cherry effect. Nice acidity mixing with the cherry and a nice classic Rioja palate. Think would have been off the charts with a more pristine bottle.
