Detert Family Vineyards
Oakville Cabernet Franc
Fridays are for Franc! And I. LOVE. THIS. WINE. I could not believe the aromatics that exploded from the bottle when I pulled the cork. Seriously it was like there was a blueberry pie baking in the kitchen. Decanted for an hour or so. Deep magenta in the glass. Loads of Cherry and blueberry on the palate mingle with vanilla, chocolate, herbs, and earth - very rich, but so incredibly balanced at the same time. I’ve been a longtime fan of Detert wines and this very well may be my favorite vintage of their Franc to date. I’m just wowed. Can’t wait to revisit this again and see how it evolves. Really well done @Tom Garrett (as always).

Mar 23rd, 2018When @Carl Fischer and I did our cab franc swap, we sent a few solid Cab francs and other misc wine, but the main reason for the swap was trading our favorite cab franc...for me, the Arnyca, and for Carl, the Detert. After finally opening this up, I can see what all the hype is about. This is pure, big boy cab franc. Deep royal purple in the glass. Although Carl recommended a decant, I wanted a small taste at pop and pour...hey-o! This sucker flexed its muscles, punched me in the face, and said "you'll wait". At about an hour and a half in the decanter, this opened BEAUTIFULLY. Violet, blackberry pie, sweet tobacco on the nose. Great acidity and mouthfeel. Chewy blackberries on the palate. This beaut of a cab franc will age so nicely. Oh man, I need to try one of these at about the 7-10yr mark. Bravo, @Carl Fischer ! You made me a believer (and my fellow cork monkey in the pic).
