At 10 years old this is showing first signs of maturity. Color has changed a bit, palate is perfect combo of earthy wet leaves, pure Grenache fruit and minerals. A touch of bear detracts. So rare to find CDP without heat. Beaucastel usually can pull it off. Rayas as well.

Don't listen to me if you like Chateauneuf-du-Pape. I hate it. Can't stand the stuff. But a friend recommended Boursan to me as the Chateauneuf for people who hate Chateauneuf. Rosenthal and Dressner import cred, so that means something. And it is not that bad. At 15 years old on paper I'm surprised how much sweet primary fruit is still here but at least the flavors aren't that gross witches' brew of licorice, sucking candy, stewed tomato sauce, and the entire A-Z roster of wine spoilage flaws that characterize most Chateauneufs that have violently passed through my lips. Not to say that it's entirely clean of those spoilage flaws, either - it reminds me very much of Musar - but I'll take that over the usual Chateauneuf any day.
